We demo'd this at a Florida Laser Enthusiast's Meeting last year. Here's the video:

Bottom line: at close range it will fool just about everyone. But as Bill mentioned, you need a really good projector, and a high contrast ratio is better than higher total power. (Need a good "black".)

Tried it for an event. It's great for fake crowdscanning and such. However an DLP projector is recommended as LCD projectors always emit a bit of light so you get a faint lit up square wherever the projector is projecting.
