    Default Commissioning some lumia... interested?

Driving home from work this evening I had an idea. I just purchased a set of Global Truss Glow Totems. For those who don't know, what that basically is, is a stand of 4 aluminum truss tubes about 9 feet tall with a weighted baseplate and a top plate and it's about 12 inches square. The truss itself is covered with a white spandex or lycra material. The idea being you can put a moving head or in my case a laser projector on top and then inside the box formed by the spandex at the base, you put an LED uplight so the 12" square column glows in whatever color you have the uplight set to. Well... started thinking about what else besides an uplight I could put in them. I'm going to try a Blisslight BL-15 but also started thinking about how lumia would work inside as well.

Some may recall the battery powered small black lumia box someone had at SELEM two years ago and that's along the lines of my vision. Doesn't need to be battery powered.., just about roughly the same size. I probably have more than enough bits and pieces to build something but neither the time or the expertise although I suspect it's fairly simple. But there are also those out there that enjoy building this stuff so I though why not throw it out there for some bids or ideas.

In a perfect world, I guess maybe a box about 8-10" square and perhaps about 6" high. AC powered with just a simple on/off switch. The wheel horizontally mounted on top of the box so the output is shooting straight up. RGB would be nice and I can't imagine it would need to be more than 50-80 mW. Maybe 100 perhaps. I'd like to test one first but would probably be looking at having three more identically built.

Any takers? Thoughts on price? Thoughts on if it will work and look decent? This hobby/business has kicked my ass the last couple years so I don't know how much I can afford right now but maybe there is some trade material I have available too.

Here is basically what I'm referring to: http://www.venuesupply.com/detail/gl...pping-5512.cfm

    Silly assed hobby...

    Great idea Brad!

If you can't get enough spread to illuminate the sides consider putting a semi fisheye lens at the output of the lumia projector to spread the beam

You may want to rethink that power number, or will this not be run with much other lighting? It is amazing to me how fast a 5w rgb projector can light the room to make a 2w Lumia rig really loose it's pop and color pallet. (The lighter orange browns pinks)

Now if being used as just a nightlight that power sounds about right.

I'd build it around one of the 400mw white bricks from china at minimum to start. http://www.ebay.com/itm/170988915781...84.m1423.l2649

It would be relatively dark since this is mainly for weddings, proms, birthday parties and during the dancing part of the evening. The ambient house lights are down but the LED, halogen, and other dance lighting would be happening. Think nightclub.

    Hi Brad...

I'm building something similar as a project at the moment...
It's a "fun" project so it's taking it's time, but if it works out as planned, I could probably make a couple more fairly quickly once I've made all the mistakes on the first one...

As long as you're not in a hurry that is...
If in doubt... Give it a clout?

Brad if you picked up any of those lumia boxes from photonbeam they would work perfectly with a small all diode rgb rig. I don't have a workshop for glass or I would make some. You could try and get some tubes out platinum.

I wonder if that guy near you still has those hanks-craft motors... If he still does go down and buy a few it will help with the build as those are the hardest part. Well unless you go AC and get these motors. If I have time maybe you will find something else added to your box... just add your own laser light.

    OH HELL YEAH !!!

    Truss totems arrived today.

First thing I tried was a Blisslight. Looks cool. BUT THEN..... remembered the LK-PD1 from laserlinna and stuck that puppy under there. Awesomeness. Sheer awesomeness. Pic's and video to follow but the worst part is since I have 4 glow trusses, now I need four new lasers! Aaarghh...

(The email to Laserking has already been sent. lol)

If you don't have them yet, you really need to make promo videos showing all your available configurations etc for clients. I'd love to see all the options you have at your disposal to sell clients at the facility.
