Default There is a reason this is a hobby.

Setup at my work today for any early fall harvest festival christams themed nit my choice. Though an easy show. But wow doing this stuff for a living would be way too much work. And I had a 12' elevated platform and full lighting grid to work with.
Spent 5 hours, for three projectors, beam rail, and bounce mirrors, hazer, audio pa, my large lumia rig and a small one. Sweating my but off working high in the air.

All you that do this for a living. Salute!!

    Yep.

Not lasers as such, but PA, Lights, Video, occasional pyro blah blah blah...

It beats having a "real" job! the old 9-6 nearly killed a lot of innocent bystanders!
If in doubt... Give it a clout?

Yep. Granted I don't do it for a living but still do it for money. Throw in uplighting, non coherent lights and... Oh yeah, the food, the set up, the decorating, the cleaning, the billing, tours, advertising, phone calls, deliveries. I must have been out of my mind to think I wanted to add lighting and lasers to all that. It also looses some enjoyment when you HAVE. to do it. You sometimes think "Aw shit. I've got to set up the damn lasers. "

I dunno man, back when I was building sound and lighting for night clubs, I could work a week of 12-14 hour days leading up to opening and it never felt like work at all. Nothing I love more than spending a week stringing cables, hanging fixtures, programming, dialing in sound and then seeing it all come to life. Unfortunately, the money just wasn't there to support my expensive hobbies. There is something about putting together a show that is going to blow people's minds, though. I miss it. Probably why I'm turning my basement into a night club these days.

It's a young guys game for sure. 30 years ago a normal week for me was 6 shows in 7 nights, each show in a different city, loading/unloading semi trailers, flying PA, sound check, gig, next city, pour self into bed at 5am, up at 9am, repeat. Insert party when possible.

I was fit (86kg, now 132kg), built like a brick shithouse and generally very bloody motivated and ambitious. Then there was the chicks.... Looking back, I loved the drugs and rock n roll but I couldn't live without the endless meaningful one night relationships lol.

But seriously, I too now find a fiull day of rigging, lineup/focus, rehearsal, show, pack up to be exhausting, and thats with a rig so small most fits in my car! Less gear, less chicks, more fun.

Always had the thought that I'd like to do that. I'm not necessarily built for roadie work at 5'3" and 114 pounds but always had the energy level and dedication for something like that. At 48 though... I'm slowing down a bit - I want cushy crankstands versus lifting things up hand over hand. LOL

I still do live shows here and there, what I call briefcase jobs (although its with a laptop not a briefcase anymore). Walk in, tune the rig, soundcheck, dinner, show, take the ladies home. Just remove all of the physical labor and it's much more doable at 49.

Thanks! Should be ok, I need her for a good time, not a long time!!!!

Photos? How many miles does she have on her? Do the RIG, BEER, HEAD and OFF buttons work reliably?
