Default To a certain group of people with nothing better to do.

There are some people on PL attacking me for my schedule. Seriously, these people need to get a life. Lets get one thing straight. The Economy sucks. The biggest employer in my town just dismissed 600 more employees. I have to be on the road to make money. I'm sorry I can't photocopy schematics, scan in data from the ION collection etc. on YOUR schedule, right NOW. Get used to it. Pre-Internet, things took time. They still do. Remember, I do that stuff for FREE for the most part.

So people, stop writing PM's with "I know your busy", as the first line. I know I'm on the road. It is not my choice to be on the road. It is, however, my choice to make more then minimum wage and to be able to afford healthcare.

I'm backlogged because of the sequester shutdown, so a priority is to get those lab groups up and running so they can meet their funding grant deadlines. The staff of those labs need to feed their families and produce new technology to help the economy.

Right now the second priority, outside of work, is keeping several of my Laserist friend's cell phones on, and their gear working, so they can feed their kids in hard times. I'm helping pay their bills and in more then one case, helping them look for new lines of work. So, please be patient if your copy of the obscure paper on Helium-Krypton hollow cathode lasers takes me a week or two more to get to you. I'm doing good if I can get home on a red-eye flight on Friday night, only to leave at 6 Am Monday morning. PL physical stuff gets done on weekends after the jet lag wears off.

When I get done in a lab, its straight to my prison cell, er hotel room, not to home. I then set there twiddling my thumbs wishing I had some one to talk to, after a hour of reading emails. There are no women in hotel bars, and usually just grumpy sales guys. It's very lonely out here.

The good news is my employer has hired new engineers, after their training is done, my schedule will get better.

Please be patient, and you might have to gently remind me more then once, when you request something.

This is not my choice, to be on the road. I'm watching my friendships decay faster then Radon. I don't like it, but for now there is no other choice.

    END RANT.

Its ronery at the Top. I'm in Vilnius, Lithuania for training til Monday. Hoppin to OZ direct would rack up some serious frequent flyer miles.
Your on. But lets find a Italian place. I imagine grilled Koala is a bit tough to chew, probably tastes gamey. My peeps will contact your peeps. Advance, Oz Fair.

I feel ya. I spent a couple years covering 9 states. People think it's cool that you get to travel and do things but, eating dinner in a nice restaurant by yourself sucks. Going to Kings Island amusement park by yourself sucks. Going to a Pirates game by yourself sucks. Wandering around a mall in a totally unfamiliar city to kill time, sucks. I spent about 6 weeks hooked on checking out strip clubs in each city... sucks. And not in a good way. This was back in the day when they were called "car phones" and were hardwired in and cost stupid money per minute so, you didn't call and talk to people much either to relieve the boredom.

It does suck to feel alone even if your in a situation where your not.. I'm not sure where the dividing line actually is, as to say, would you rather be in a unfulfilling relationship where you are responsible for someone else's feelings or to be totally free to do whatever you want, just by yourself... I guess it comes down to "The grass is always greener on the other side".

Isn't the easy fix to not offer to do things or provide things that there isn't time to get to? Unfortunately in today's world the mentality is gotta have it now (not pre-internet time). Often it is easier to not have something; instead of what could appear to be a carrot dangled out of reach. Please note this statement is broad not applying to anyone one person. I myself have had to take and learn from this same statement, otherwise things can become too overwhelming making sure to keep all ones promises. I'm not saying don't offer information; I myself am just careful not to offer something until i know i can provide it (that way no one is waiting). Sometimes it is harder to say NO than yes, when no is the more appropriate answer sometimes in life.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

I said the same thing about an old guy making holograms while stuck in the '70s and riding my bike to work.
