Why do you keep repeating yourself? You are starting to sound like a cry baby. The majority of the regular posters on this site are more than capable of building their own modules, so why on earth would they pay someone else top dollar? Take your shit to ebay and stop bitching.

If you think that this discussion has anything to do with my sales then your clearly don,t understand what the discussion is. We are talking about selling something secondhand without no warrenty on the for sale thread as is and how to "treat" a seller or how you want to be treated as a seller. And making the choice weither you want to be the vulture of the gentleman. Its a general discussion plain and simple. Selling secondhand stuff affects all of us since everyone has something sooner or later. It changed over the past 3 years and i,m just wondering where people got of the track.

Because i,m selling a product laser related doesn,t mean that i don,t have a right to speak up. I could be a carpenter with interest in lasers. I just notice what happens lately on PL..........

I don't know if that happens quite as much as you seem to think it does. In your example, a $1000 CNI module sold six months later where the seller is asking $800 I don't suspect is going to end up being $300-$400 before being sold. Yes there are cases where people are listing things and nobody bites so you see them lowing the price.

I know of a couple examples... Here is one. There is the guy right now with the DT40wides on the buy/sell thread that only have a few hours on them and he wants Pro's with larger mirrors to replace them. His starting price wasn't bad as compared to new from say, Rob or Dave but, when you factor in the exchange rate, it's still too much money for someone over here to consider. So he's got to lower the price gradually until it hits a point where someone want to bite. The other issue has nothing to do with what HE'S selling... it's the promise of the Compact 506's being on sale very soon with better performance and a lower price for a new item.

In my case, (if I had the money), I would have made an offer based on what I've paid for a few other sets. I think he started around 450 euro. That's about $675 US. I think he's down to 380 euro or around $570 right now. The last two used sets I bought, I paid $400 for, plus Paypal and shipping. So there is still a big divide between what he wants and what I'm willing to pay. So...I'd offer him $400 or $425 based on my own past experience. It has nothing to do with trying to "steal" them or be a vulture. If I don't get them, I don't get them. But I'm not going to offer to pay $580 when past experience has been that they "should" be about $450. PLUS, (and here is where the China thing comes into play), new from Goldenstar they are $500 US. New from Dave thy are $600 US. New from Rob they are $701.07. $400 into $500 is 80% so in theory, $400 is a fair offer, based on what you previously posted above. Now.. $400 into $701.07 is only 57.05% so... does that make me a vulture? Or, am I screwing Rob? Or am I screwing the seller?

There is a lot that plays into it. Lasers and laser related stuff looses value. Quickly. Sort of like a brand new car does when it gets driven out of the dealership. So buying used is always a sort of negotiation.

You pay more when buying from ROB because you get service and warrenty on it. If the set is purchased with still warrenty on it and the seller mentioned he bought it from Rob then i think 80% of 701.07 is a fair deal. 400 usd from 500 is 80% so a good offer if you ask me when it doesn,t have warrenty on it since a new one cost about 500 usd. Of course we always have the usd/euro conversion so that is why most european sellers aim for a european buyer i guess. I see that US buyers struggle to buy from Europe since the dollar euro conversion is not that great for them.

The discussion is not pointed to anyone i just noticed that lately people get screwed by other members in the wonderful PL world where everyone pretends to be a "friend" But in the end its just getting things for as cheap as you can get. That will "help"no one that,s for sure.A little less "toes stepping" with reasonable offers would make PL allot nicer.
I also see sometimes the otherway arround so its not always that bad but that group seems to get smaller and smaller lately.

I,m just against the "thats your loss or being a vulture mentality.... thats all.

I think you'd have to confirm with Rob whether he'd honour any warranty for an item sold on.
For me, a used purchase is one without warranty unless the seller explicitly states they'll personally provide warranty.
Brad is right with the new car analogy. You buy new, and as soon as it leaves the forecourt you take a big hit. That applies to everything. Look around at all the items you can get cheap which are new but opened and returned as a result of distance selling regulations.

I think you'll find they 'helped them out' because there wasn't anyone else stepping up to pay more was there?

PL will never get you top dollar for an item - it is simply too small a catchment group. What it WILL do is find you a lot of people who may have an interest in your item. It will also get you buyers without having to resort to eBay and all of the associated charges.

By the time you've sold something on ebay, you are into nearly 20% of the item value across final value fees, Paypal, etc, not to mention all the dicking around, risk of chargebacks, etc

People will pay what they think something is worth. Just because you might have an inflated impression of what something is worth, doesn't mean they are wrong.
At the end of the day, an item is worth what it sells for. It takes 2 people to make a deal.

Some people dont haggle. (BTW, thank you for that word, i meant that when I said bartering earlier.)

I meet people like this when I'm lurking the flea markets, ect. They have a set value system, and get insulted if you try to manipulate it. I've seen people get really mad. What they dont get is its a used item. Used items dont have set value system, they are only worth what people are willing to pay for them. Obviously Edison is one of these people, and cant understand this. I think we are wasting our breath trying to change his mind. He's so stuck on his 80% rule its blinding him to the logic that is presented before him. Which is OK, thats his right.
