Red face Anyone know or have experience with this laser?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/CLUB-150-mW-Gree...QQcmdZViewItem

I am thinking about maybe getting that one.. but it's a little over my budget. I was also looking at (which is around my budget):

    http://cgi.ebay.com/100mw-Animation-...QQcmdZViewItem

They both are ILDA compatible, and both have IR filters installed. Do you think the extra 50mw will look that much brighter, because from what I have heard you need about 4x the power in order for it LOOK twice as bright. So it doesn't seem 50mw would do that much. The first laser has a way bigger case, which just makes me assume it's built better (it does have that airlock chamber which looks nice. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't touch the first one from nfiexports with a barge pole.
I bought a Super1 off them last year. It didn't resemble the one that they advertised, the airlock chamber was simply a black cover that you could put your fingers through in several places, the scanners would only show the ILDA patern at about 8k (that was just to make it recognisable, not tuned).
The responces that I got from them were all negative, and they wanted me to pay shipping both ways to get it *inspected* at a cost of about $300.
After about a month one of the galvos let that magic smoke escape too.

Post Re: E-bay green laser projectors

Looking at the "olympic rings" picture of overlapping circles for the 100 mw unit, it appears that the projector has some really slow galvos... Notice how segmented the circles are? My guess is that they're running between 8k and 10 kpps.

eh - if you want to avoid the hassle of assembling the projector yourself, then that might be the way to go. But at a cost of $455 + $120 shipping, it's not exactly cheap. (It's not unreasonable, however.)

The 150 mw unit, however, is seriously overpriced in my opinion.

    Very cross-bencher opinion.

"Cross-bencher"? You mean on the fence, maybe? As in, unable to decide one way or another?

I don't think I was on the fence with my post. Personally, I wouldn't buy a projector with such slow galvos, period. This is why I pointed out the fact of the slow galvos.

However, some people don't care about graphics. I've met folks that think 10 K is plenty fast enough. (And it is, if all you ever do is beamshows.) So if Instinct is only looking for a beams projector, then it would work for his application. Likewise, if he doesn't want to go through the hassle of assembling it himself, then the price isn't unreasonable. I didn't enumerate all of this in my post, but it should have been obvious.

As for my own tastes, I would rather buy a faster set of galvos and assemble it myself to save some money, and end up with a nicer projector. But I value graphics as well as beams, so I'd want the faster galvos.

The price of the 100 mw unit is a little higher than the price of some other projectors I've seen on E-bay, but not terribly so. If Instinct likes the features of the unit and no one knows of any pressing reason why he shouldn't deal with that seller, then it might well suit his needs. Just because it's not something that you or I would buy doesn't mean it's junk.

Now, the 150 mw projector is *way* overpriced no matter how you look at it.

So how, exactly, does all that make me a "cross-bencher"?

    Question

Well, the Wikipedia entry did say:
The cross-benchers are often viewed as bringing specialist knowledge to the House, since they have usually been created peers for reasons other than party or political affiliation.
Maybe that's what he meant? Nah... Still doesn't apply.

    I give up. I'm stumped.
