    Yes thats the one Rob.
If you look at the diode itself very carefully you will see the wire at the bottom of the diode goes to the pin and the wire at the top/front goes to the case.

How about this then - A real close up of the diode chip and mounting.

    http://photonlexicon.com/gallery/DVD...p-down/ldmacro

The wierd thing about this is the fact that the chip is mounted on a block that is obviously electrically insulated from the case as it has a wired connection to the insulated pin at the rear of the case which is the anode connection. Whereas the cathode top connection wires straight to the can. So the diode itself is just like all other LD's in that the mounting substrate is the anode with the cathode strip on top of the chip.
There must be a good reason to go to the trouble of insulating the anode from the case - especially as this must throw up thermal conductivity issues.

One other thing that amazes me is how battered the end face of the mounting is. It looks like the YTS lad was bored and thought he would knock the crap out of it for a Friday afternoon laugh! You would expect it to cleanly cleaved or milled.

You know how small the chinese are, the apprentices must be even smaller.
Looks like the apprentice was a brass-mason (like stone mason but brass)

    Markoni --

It takes a little more time and care to not touch the goody !! Beam quality is real good and worth the effort because it may be an 18x diode.
Keep the leads shorted while you work on it. The real Ba$tard is the caseless IR diode.

He speakes!!! Where were you this week end? We had the front row of the balcony reserved for us... I think we even had 2 or 3 open seats... I brought my maxymod to show off to the design producer. but you weren't there to explain it all to him, all I could do was turn it on, after he wired something up to blank it with...

Indeed, Marconi... Not only did you miss one hell of a laser show, you missed an opportunity to talk to Ryan Waters about the red diode modules you sell. He was very interested in more information, but you weren't there.

Plus on top of that, got sick.. didnt want to pass that along to anyone..
Missed you guys so here I am..

Thanks for taking the module along., Ryan did contact us.
It looks like he wants one to test..

Looks like I may just have to take a look at on one those drive for s and g's.

Is there a line along with the beam in the spot?
