    Default My new Phantom

    I ordered a Phantom!!
I've wanted one of these for a while now, and i figure with all the crap that's happened in my life this year this was a worthy Christmas present to myself
This one's the newer model that'll fly for 25 minutes.
It has a Zenmuse stabilized gimbal slung underneath for a GoPro camera (which i've borrowed from Chis - Pockels (cheers bro)

I've only flown it a few times, but it's absolutely incredible. I'll be bringing it to the next LEM for some outdoor laser video at night

The compressed video is really bad quality, but uncompressed, it's awesome!

    Enjoy!

Sounds like awesome fun-ness! A goPro Hero just arrived on my end and I was thinking how cool it would be to mount it to an RC plane or quad for arial shots.

Just uploading to youtube. I'll add the link when it's finished. A toy, this thing aint. It weighs well over a kilo, so precautions are required. Takes a few minutes for a GPS lock, then you can bring it to a hover, put the transmitter down, go inside, make a coffee, have a chat, and it'll still be there in exactly the same position you left it
As my girlfriend said, it sounds like an 'angry wasp'. And it's quick, really quick. This thing climbs at 6m a second

The gimbal is incredible, and i can tilt it from horizontal to straight down remotely with the transmitter. It was £620 all up, but i will get some fantastic footage next year, and once i enable manual mode (eventually) it'll do basic aerobatics

I have a GoPro Hero 3 (silver), but I balked at the high price of the Phantom quadcopter, so instead I picked up the X4 H107D from Husban. It's a smaller quad that has a built-in camera, and it transmits live video back to the controller so you can fly it in first-person video mode.

It's damned hard to do that though (fly in FPV mode). So far I've only been able to fly it in standard RC mode. Also, since it doesn't have an advanced GPS gyro, you do have to actually fly the thing. (But it's got a nice 6 axis gyro, so it's pretty stable, even compared to other quads, which as a general rule are inherently more stable than standard heli's to start with.)

Here's the link to the one I got: http://www.amazon.com/Hubsan-H107D-Q...qid=1388159867

At some point I might pick up a Phantom, but the near $500 price tag has me reeling. I only spent $200 on the H107D, and most of that cost was the first person video setup.

PS: For those of you who will be attending FLEM on March 1st, 2014, I will have a couple quad-copters with me, plus my collective-pitch mini. I think Lazerjock will be bringing a few quads and some other toys as well.

Haha! That is fantastic. The future is here! Can't wait to see night video of outdoor lasers. Makes a helluva racket though!

Yeah, had a couple of beers and it was Christmas day round at mum and dads. I managed to to hit dad with it and broke a rotor. He still claims i was trying to kill him
Flat pitch though, it drops out of the sky, and needs at least a few seconds of 'full beans' to recover. Something i didn't realize at the time. i absolutely love this thing, but it certainly requires respect.
It already has a video downlink, so i'm picking up up an Immersion 250mw transmitter and FatShark FPV goggles
