Well I tried twice to get a price from collimated.com and PM'ed Francesco but got no replies on all fronts.

So please can someone PM me with a price for a set of 506's including tax and shipping to the UK. Thanks.

MixedGas, how does your amp modding service work? Would I send you my amps for you to mod and send back or do you supply pre modded amps? PM me with a price same as above please.

    Thanks
    Cheers

I PM'd Francesco as well and got no reply. Might as well wait for the 506's and matching digital amps....

I put your payment in an Escrow account. When I ship a pair of amps to you, I debit the account.

With 3 mm mirrors, the amps are pre-tuned close enough that you can do slight adjustments for your actual mirrors. Since I do not own a 5mm pair, 5 mm galvo sets need to come to me first.

If need be your threes can come here for a final tune as well, as you are overseas and shipping gets expensive.

I own two sets of 3 mm 506 pairs, one I use for amp tuning and graphics, the other pair is spare if the tuning pair is ever damaged.

We have also done things backwards, for special customers or special mirrors, in rare cases the amps are modded and go to Pangolin from here. However Justin rightfully can add on a special tuning fee for Bill's time, as tuning time burns up CEO time. Although I suspect Bill enjoys tuning, it seems to be like Chess for him. I'm quite sure Bill will teach his manufacturing interns to tune.

Right now I'm finishing up the first batch.

From what Francesco tells me he may be in a position to supply the 506/digital amp setup early next year.

Effective Today, All five Millimeter mirror set "Redboard" amps must be tuned at Pangolin. 506 with certain large mirrors need the Notch filter modified and left installed. I'll gladly sell you the modified amp with the notch filter. However I do not have the time-motion analyzer needed for a three pole notch and full 30K performance.

Three millimeter mirror sets perform just fine without a Notch module, and it is removed and "jumpered out" according to Bill's instructions.

Sorry for any confusion. I was not aware of this, until I attempted to tune a 5 mm Set and found the resonances.

    Hey Steve,

Bill told me I was the first person to do red-boards and 5mm mirrors on the 506's. As you may recall, Bill actually did the tuning on those. What resonances are you referring to? Both my 506 sets (with 5mm mirrors) are a tiny bit wobbly (+/- 4mm) at 18 feet at all projection speeds. I assumed it was either a PSU issue, interference on the (shielded) signal cable, a mysterious ground loop issue, or just lack of experience with really large mirrors. Is this something that wasn't discovered until after I got my two sets?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi David,

Almost every scanner and amp system on the market today uses a notch filter. This includes ever PT40 and PTA 40 I have ever seen, certainly the new PTA10s, and many DT40s as well. A notch filter suppresses resonances in the system which result from an interaction between the rotor and the mirror. So it's quite common to have and use notch filters.

ScannerMAX scanners are unusual, in that you *normally* do not need a notch filter. This is because of the "stronger" aspects of our design. However, in the case of the very long 5mm Y mirror, in this case a notch filter is needed for 30K and faster speeds.

If you look on your pair of amps, you will see an extra module on the Y scanner. This is the notch filter. This is not needed on the X axis with ScannerMAX scanners.

Steve is not able to tune the notch filter module, which is why I get involved any time a system is sold with 5mm mirrors. That's what he is talking about above.

Your system and every other Compact 506 system that I've seen looked beautiful when it shipped. And there is a problem we have with terminology. The word "wobbly" can be used to mean many things, including ground loops and power supply issues you mentioned above.

If you'd like, we could get into an email discussion where we drill down on what you are experiencing and some potential solutions. Skype may be even better so that I can see -- in real time -- what is happening.

    Bill
