30 minutes... Looks like the same amps I sent. If it is they, mind = blown. Great stuff, Bill!

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Actually, these are not your amps, but are identical to the ones you sent. When I first received your amps, I didn't have much hope... The Compact 506 has only a 3 ohm coil resistance, and these cheap amps have a LM1875 power stage (20 watt amp). But although I didn't hold out much hope, I gave it a shot, and you see the results. Even large-signal performance is really remarkable.

The Doctor will, no doubt, be very happy with the performance!

I had a tripod in the car with me on the way to the airport and made the decision at the last minute that I didn't want the extra piece of luggage. As far as the auto focus... well, yeah, that's a problem sometimes. It kept wanting to use Frank's face. Should have switched it to manual.

Now... if you're gonna bitch... then drag your ass to the LEM instead.

Awesome performance. I can't believe how solid the ilda test pattern looks, 30K @ 12°. Sounds like you had to do a little digging to get them to behave. Was there a lot involved with converting these amps over?

Ultimately not too much. The trick was something called "position scale" which is a bit different for this amp. In the end, it's still just a handful of components that are different.

Brad, thanks for posting the video; its like virtually attending a LEM. The ScannerMAX 506 performance with the Chinese amp is very impressive. I think I'll wait until Pangolin brings their amp to market, although it is tempting to modify an existing amplifier set to drive the ScannerMAX galvo's 3 ohm coil load... But if I wait we'll be keeping business within the USA and will have a properly matched amp and output stage that can source all the current necessary for the galvos... So in instead of ordering a Phenix Technology PT30 scanner methinks I'll wait.

Bill, I think its really cool that you stay involved in the PL community.... You are a world leader in the industry and busy man but still make the time to attend LEMs and participate in the PL forum. Kudos !

    Thanks Jason!

I actually started as a hobbyist myself, initially volunteering at Daytona Planetarium so many years ago. Since hobby lasering is part of my roots, I still support the community. I have attended every single Laser Freak meeting (in Germany) as well as every single SELEM meeting too. Plus we've gotten some good interns because they learn about us on forums like this!
