OK, I started modification of the test pair, ending at 1:00 AM this morning. SO far, very few snags. I need to figure out how to calibrate the position scale. Most of tomorrow will be finishing up the details, so if I have any questions for Bill on Monday I can do so promptly. The first mod to any production device always takes considerable time to do.

Making the cables is a cast iron witch. It takes considerable practice.

I'm having software issues posting, something with cookies not working correctly. I therefore need to talk to Spec. Please be patient if I have not replied to you.

This isn't important enough to have bothered you directly Bill but, if you happen to stumble across this thread again, I'm just wondering how things are coming along with Pangolin's digital amps. I'm not in a hurry like perhaps some of these other individuals are and, going the route of cheap Asian amps with modifications but, based on discussions at FLEM it sounded as though we might be "live" by the time SELEM rolls around. I'm sort of holding off until a "turn key retail box" from Pangolin is available to jump on the 506 or Saturn bandwagon. I don't have a burning "need" for them but, am very anxious to start buying the final product and swapping some scan sets out.

We are in a holding pattern while Bill evaluates the changes needed for the amps I obtained. There are a few parts value differences from the DT version. Nothing un-curable.

Hi Steve, Per my PM I would like to purchase a set as well. I've decided not to ask if you to modify the PT-20k amps I purchased for this task a couple days before you placed your quantity order. I'll just keep that scanset as a spare or for satellite beams...

When you can let me know where to send the money to....

    Thanks,
    Jason

The Mach DSP is finished and shipping, but that's mostly sold along with Saturn scanners. The "Mach Mini" is going into the board house later this week. Work on the firmware has also commenced, and the design is based largely on the Mach DSP. For sure by SELEM this will be ready.

In the mean time, cheap amps are not a bad way to go, and I've just come up with an alternative coil winding that gives better performance with amps like the DT and ones that Steve are selling. We'll retain the older coil winding for use with PT amps and other amps that only use LM 1875 as an output stage.

Ok, I just sent the list of obvious, measured, parts discrepancies to Bill, plus measurements of most of the critical parts. This board very much lines up with a DT40 Amp.
More testing will be conducted tonight.

"Interim-605" Amplifier for Pangolin ScannerMax (tm) C506 Galvos.
    Pots, Labeling for Future Tuning.

OFF --> INPUT OFFSET --> SETS POSITION SENSOR ZERO OFFSET, DO NOT USE TO ADD IMAGE OFFSET IN THE FIELD.

ISC --> INPUT SCALE --> SETS DEGREES OF DEFLECTION PER UNIT OF INPUT VOLTAGE, AKA IMAGE SIZE. ADJUST AS NEEDED.

HFD --> HIGH FREQUENCY DAMPING --> ADJUST DURING GALVO TUNING.

QX1 --> FACTORY SET, LEAVE ALONE --> DO NOT FIELD ADJUST.

LFD --> LOW FREQUENCY DAMPING --> ADJUST DURING GALVO TUNING.

SVG --> SERVO GAIN --> ADJUST DURING GALVO TUNING.

QX2 --> FACTORY SET, LEAVE ALONE --> DO NOT FIELD ADJUST. SET QX2 FULL CW IF INSTALLED.

LIN --> POSITION SENSOR LINEARITY --> SLIGHTLY ADJUST DURING GALVO TUNING.

PSC --> POSITION SENSOR SCALE - FACTORY SET --> CALIBRATED FOR TYPE OF GALVO, - DO NOT FIELD ADJUST!

    NOTES:

    1. THERE IS A PROCEDURE FOR THE "FACTORY SET" POTENTIOMETERS, HOWEVER IT REQUIRES AN OSCILLOSCOPE AND PRECISION SIGNAL GENERATOR. Most users should never need the procedure, and done improperly, it can do damage to the Galvos.

    2. QX1 and QX2 CHANGE THE BIAS ON THE LINEARITY CIRCUIT. LEAVE ALONE.

I did mention a while back that Bill was sending me 2 different sets of amps to test - all DT40 amps, but 2 pairs tuned to 36k and 2 pairs tuned to 50k.
My world has got a bit hectic all of a sudden with festival/party season kicking off, but I did have a chance to run a set of 36k back to back with a 50k set in identical projectors.

I did ask Bill what differences I was likely to see and he said that it would show up any differences on complex graphics, or text predominantly.

So I tried projecting some text at speeds from 30k up to 50k, at reasonable scan angles (I didn't have time to measure, but it must've been over 30 degrees, maybe even 40). The 50k's were just better all the way through, sharper corners, cleaner looking. So I immediartely fitted both projectors out with both 50k sets. What's not to like!

I did shoot a video, but haven't had the chance to upload it yet. When i do i'll come back here and add the link so you can visualise it better.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

Big question, what was your overall impression of projection quality vs DT's / EMS etc?
