    That ruby rod is huge! Ben has a a whole series of excellent videos. I've watched them all. His sputtering set-up is particularly interesting. Thanks for letting us know this latest video.

    Me too. All the recent uproar about class 4 lasers in the hands of hobbyists, but here's an article about building one with a ruby from Popular Science in 1964.

    although with a pulse rate of 1/ppm and wavelength of 694nm, they're not really a candidate for crowd scanning

    But as an anti-heckler device it would be hard to beat, no?
