Default Diode & optical component spacing

When designing a projector is the spacing between the diodes, dichros and galvo mirrors particularly important and are there ways to make alignment easier when designing the optical set-up?

I understand that Swami uses a bounce mirror before the scanner set - what benefits does this bring?

    Thanks

    Keith

it makes you ubercool like swami..

*and* it allows you to steer your beam more accurately onto the galvos.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Thanks Swami, if that isn't a reason to do it, I don't know what is!

Does it just make it easier or actually provide manoeuvrability that would not be there otherwise?

How much power would be lost having this extra mirror or is negligible?

in my experience having the additional alignment capability is well worth the effort.

power loss is dependent on mirror type. i would rather loose a few mW and save myself an afternoon of drilling, tapping, and remounting after discovering my alignment was off by a mm or two.

Thanks Swami, that's made my mind up then! My electromechanical skills are lacking a bit after decades of little use, so imagine my mm or 2 may be few more than that :P

Does spacing of optical components matter too much? I guess the closer the components, the higher the resolution of mount adjustments but then reduces total adjustment distance?

i like to leave enough room so i don't burn my thumbs when twiddling knobs.

    Haha, never thought of that!
