    Default LaserCheck Batteries!

How do you replace the batteries in a LaserCheck, any ideas?

uh oh... those units are sealed... definitely not meant to be user servicable.

The official answer would be... send it back to coherent for service... it's a
bit pricey just to replace a $10 battery, but it'll come back recertified.

However, it can be done at home just fine... get some silicone to reseal the
case before you start. Also, make sure you never lose power thoughout this
process, otherwise you could possibly lose the firmware... I've seen it done
by temporarily running another 3.6V source in parallel w/ the batteries... I've
also seen it done where you solder the new ones in parallel to the existing
battery first, then clip the leads to the old battery.

    Thanks Yadda,
I have sent LMC (UK dealer) in England an email asking for the price of the battery/service. I expect it to be twice what you get charged over there so will probably end up just getting the cell and doing it myself.

Right I've just got the reply

    Hi Jim,

Unfortunately, it is not cost effective to replace the battery. We have to break open the case and cannot reuse the parts.
You will need to purchase a new one. John Abbott in our UK office can quote you the cost for a replacement Lasercheck.

    Regards,
    Nicki

So I guess I will replace it myself.
I've just split the case open using my thumb, the rest is a doddle.

I have done it !! It also is very close....well to the Liconix unit.....Tugg.....sweat.....pull... Much easier to use on the fly. I have used it for around 5 or 6 months without a worry. May sell the beast....no. Keep for benchmark and backup unit.
