Yes indeed, but I was thinking that 3 in a triangular pattern with the same polarity and no PBS (just mirrors) will give me the power and beam spec I need now, and then I have the option of adding another one in a triangle config (but with 90 degree rotated polarity) using a PBS to join them and make a >1watt monster with the same beam spec.
That said, I do like the arctos style, 4 diode/1 PBS layout

How tight can you get the beams by just using mirrors?
What is the size of each beam?
Jim
Take three equal round coins, place them in a triangle as close to each other as you can get them. That ought to tell you. One mirror can be any shape or size so long as it has one straight edge, the other should have two straight edges and a cut corner (ground off with a diamond hone, maybe). Both must be front surface, thickness is unimportant. You might be able to get even closer grouping given that the hot core of each beam is wanted, and you can afford to lose a little of the outside of the beams where they travel next to each other.
Given that lot, I'll leave you to work out how they're arranged and aligned. Pit sussed it, so the riddle is solvable.
Hehe,
quite a riddle Doc

Just got off the phone to Photonic, and have managed to sweet talk them and have 17 diodes put aside.
As we're short, and trying to be as fair as poss, that unfortunately means that Dave will miss out this time, being the last to confirm. Hopefully he's still in no great rush for them, but I can get them in April, if still required. Sorry Dave.
I will also have some spares when the new delivery arrives in April, so anyone else can grab some if wanted. Once again, please just indicate your interest.
If everyone can cough up quite promptly, I can pick them up as soon as tomorrow and get them sent out, I'll PM you the amount and payment details within the next hour or so.

I had to sweet talk them to get my shipment too. Glad to see a company that responds to tears !!!! I havn't tried one yet but from what I've read, it will be good. If failures are based on long run time, mine will never fail because I run mine usually for under one minute.

Hi all... first post after lurking about for a while. This thread was the final impetus for joining.
Almost went in on this GB, but held back because the pro's/con's list was too even. In the end, the budget is what tipped the balance. It was close though.
Nonetheless, I'm still interested in future GB's for the Opnext, or similar diodes. In fact, if someone in the states is currently willing to let one go at a reasonable price...
