From what I can recall from my age-addled brain, both the P/S and head have the *look* of components both manufactured in the early '80s. That said, that particular glass envelope and cavity for our 5-10W systems had gone for many years in production with very little modification, and was introduced in the mid '70s.
If the water jacket was plugged, this is a clue to me that this was a laser scribing system, used solely in the pulsed mode for the trimming of precision resistors. In pulsed mode, a scribing system with a duty cycle of 5%-10% (@ 5W) just doesn't generate enough heat to warrant flowing coolant around the cavity.

Thanks for the info! Be sure to check out my other threads here for pics of more vintage lasers. I have a line on an old Apollo ruby system too, but it'll be another few months before I get it here.
