Default Oblivion the movie - lots of nice WHITE lasers :-)

Watched Oblivion the movie ( tom cruise ) over the weekend

pretty impressed some really unique , cool and smart effects

    LOTS OF WHITE LASERS !!!

Thing is , i felt i could spot the difference between the VFX department
nd when they used real lasers .... ( im pretty sure in the scavs HQ near
the end and the drones entered , im pretty sure that was REAL lasers
not VFX ) , but a cursory look at the 15 mins of titles at end and no
mention of a laserist or company ?

Defo worth a watch , as is the latest star trek movie
In the beginning there was none. Then came the light - #1 UKLEM - 2007

Yeah, good movie! Those scanning lasers that came from the drones were definitely a great white color. CGI or not.. hard to tell these days .. but the beams and scatter did look real.

Based on this thread I watched the film.
    Ho hum ....

I'm guessing that Tommy Boy turned up, said his lines and then cashed the cheque.

    Ahhh well .......

You did not enjoy the film? Personally, I think it is one of the best films I saw last year.

Nowawdays, since laser-fx for film have become so 'utilitarian' (..compared to the old 'huge-production-thang' days..) it's more common for the 'SFX Co' to simply sub it out to the local-yolkels with the 20 Watt toasters.. Thus, that 'credit' would just get 'rolled-in' with the SFX houses'..

...However, usually the Sho-Co's are allowed / like-to 'pimp their own-werk', so.. often they'll have, ie: 'Films we're in' on their site / Client-lists, etc.. I kinda like thinking, tho, back in the day when DSLS was building hardcore-systems for some of the larger ShoCo's, that we were their great 'secret-weapon..' Nice to see kickin-lasers on some Tour / FX in some flik, and know-inside, '..hey, I built that rig...'

..though, Yes.. 'Post' does kill a *lot* of laser-fx considerations for shoots.. Hate those '..we've gone in a different direction...' emails.. ..Sorry, but.. 'ain't nothing like a real-beam, baby..'

I really liked Morgan Freeman's role in that film .. He's a great actor . I'm not a big fan of Tom Cruise but even he did a decent job .
2:15 for a glimpse of the lasers.. are they real?

Most likely combination of nerves and aversion response. It doesn't look that bright. He was probably afraid of the laser to start with.

No real light spill off the face. With a higher power I'd expect to see much more light reflected down onto the shoulders of the jacket.

I've seen it and done it myself. It's amazing how once the fear goes you can look at it and not even flinch:

Yeah, if the fx people were competent at all I'm sure that they would have powered down for the "facial shot". People could get hurt. Expensive people
