Thanks. Maybe that would help solve an issue from this trip. I'm really not happy with the video and stills from this trip. Too many times what I thought I was shooting I wasn't and when I thought I was turning it off, it was actually going on. I should have previewed them prior to just passing on whole batch to everyone. Guess we'll just have to go back to Utila!

    Got the important one though....

Frickin buffo.... that's all I have to say.

I now own a dive computer.

I have a mask, snorkel and fin socks in my ebay shopping cart awaiting me to click and pay.

I also discovered...get this... I can see a damn dive shop from my bedroom window. Never even knew it was there!

Oh Lord.... what has he done now.

Great! When are we going diving??

    What computer did you get?

Also, BEFORE you buy anything online, go to the dive shop to find masks that work for you. That's what I did, I tried on about 10 different masks and picked the one that fit me the best.. and I'm glad I did, because I really liked how it fit in the water. Some masks are easier or harder to pinch your nose, and you can't test that on ebay.

I know, right? I'm over here wondering when I can, at soonest, rationalize jumping into Seattle's freezing Puget Sound in a dry suit!

Everything they say about scuba is true. It's another world. It all clicked for me when a ~4' barracuda sat there and stared at us while opening then snapping his mouth shut like he was saying "These teeth would go nicely with that exposed bit of skin at the bottom of your shorty wetsuit.." (The part where he followed us for a bit really sealed the deal for me.) We were later assured he was probably just thinking something more like "I bet they might leave some scraps for me if I tail them a little."

(For illustration, here's an example of what we were looking at.)

Many thanks to Neutrino for making this adventure possible and Buffo for organizing everything. Also would like to thank Picasso for passing along his cancelled booking, helping me rationalize paying for airfare and other things.

My favorite moments, besides the aforementioned barracuda encounter, where the pub crawl Hank and I did on Thursday, the beach party Saturday night, and, of course, the wreck dive on the last Friday. I remember being quite nervous beforehand, but once we got past 60 feet, I realized an extra 40 feet in addition to our previous depth record was not that bad.

    Let's go again in 2016!

    - Jonathan

Yes, henceforth the Utila Pub Crawl shall become a scheduled event* during Carib-LEM MkIII.

*But without diving the following morning.

Just don't expect REHAB to have good tequila.

Ok... I realize it's not the fanciest, most sophisticated computer out there but I can't justify $900 for some of the high tech gizmos. And if I do someday, this is supposed to be decent as a redundant computer but it's a ScubaPro Digital 330m. $180 shipped.

Rich will probably chime in and say it's a worthless piece of dung that he could sell me for $120 but... whatever. Who knows, it may not see water until Utila again but... you don't leave a trip like that and not buy "something".

Mask and snorkel are this one:

    and the socks are:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/321346512820...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I decided socks over boots since until I take the plunge and think about fins (see what I did there?) I suspect most places have slip on's versus buckles.

Humm... so, it's actually not a "computer" but rather a dive timer/depth log. I'd still need to do some surface calculations but, in the end, a couple minutes with the "ED whatsits ml", along with this... is STILL cheaper than dropping a grand.

Yep, the 'computer' isn't a computer. It will show your bottom time, depth, and temperature. Computers run in the $300 region and upwards. The one Adam was using is around the $300 mark. No need to drop grand - just yet!
The mask & snorkel and socks look great.

I used to dive for Sea World. I have 2 sets of complete gear that I haven't used in many years. If anyone wants some cheap used gear let me know.
My wife doesn't dive so it just sits.

Understand this is old stuff, but it works (at least the last time I used it). If there is interest I will post pics and prices in the buy sell section.

    Chris
