@ planters - we are joined at the hip, more than you realize. ALL markets are manipulated. Gold at 20K$ /oz? that is only if you compare your coins of metal or piece of land to a fiat currency. Stackers do NOT value their stack in fiat or digital bits...it is beyond that, its a real store of real wealth just like land...anything in the system is an illusion and a game for the wealthy to control the population and toss them a bone occasionally...or if you are a good slave...you get a McMansion with a Bentley parked out front. Elections are football games, entertainment and diarrhea for the brain dead. The "elected" leaders are "selected" in advance and the false left right paradigm is fodder for the masses. root for what ever team you want, they will still win because they approved both sides. I'm sure you know that the district of columbia is a corporation, and we are all its employees. Study maritime law for more information.

    Are we on topic?
More than ever. And we could clearly use some fresh ideas. Changing the world or abandoning it can be pretty tiring and I'd like to get this all worked out pretty soon as I have a couple of lasers to align.

the planet is 4 billion years old - we are a blip in history - a global extinction event is what it is - meaning no lifeforms - new life must evolve from the either, as it has many times in "history". Consciousness is the only thing that survives, the trick is the new consciousness that rises from the ashes must learn from the past.

If you want to get real deep and into the land of the woo woo - study - The Law of One series - Not saying it is the truth, but it is just as possible of any other scenario I have studied.

But the real truth strangely enough - tech_junkie hit on it - Study - "The Present" The Present is a gift, the past is for memories and stories, the future is the present that hasn't occurred yet. Look into a newborns eyes, they hold the mysteries of the universe in their eyes because they are living in the moment...The second they start learning ANYTHING they devolve into us ego filled assholes that want to destroy the planet.

    Laserman,

Yes, I got all that and I agree with the diagnosis, but I am not ready for hospice. I am looking for solutions, big ones, epic ones AND little ones. The Muslim extremists are looking to disrupt the system and "hopefully" they'll be there to pick up the pieces. Much of the third world is looking to overwhelm the globe with population #s and they are making pretty good progress. The Fabian socialists are trying to remake the citizens of more technology advanced nations into some sort of idealized populace based on a completely adolescent view of human nature.

Yet, here we are. A very smart, well educated, experienced and broadly capable community discussing these problems. Our opponents are not Olympian ie Harry Reid (senile?), John Boehner (alcoholic?) just ruthless. I'm sure participants here from other countries could add to this list of jokers. If this were a video game I would consider the zombies to be set on moderate (violent but slow).

What to do? Stiffler asked this question. Goldie Hawn was being interviewed years ago and was asked about her struggle with depression and said "The best remedy for depression is action". I agree with this. It takes you away from your own struggles and forces you to plan and that means to look forward rather than backward.

Awesome discussions.. I'm way-too busy to participate as I'd like, but I just had to pop-in and say...

    ..don't forget the 1/2 Disarrono...

Here's one spin: What could be accomplished in this country, if we (..just focusing on what "we" could do, here, in the US, since we clearly will never 'fix the world' (and need to stop "trying" ) if, aside from untouchable 'bio' / wildlife preserves / national-parks, etc, were to look at the *unbelieveable* amount of virtually virgin land in this country.. Every time I've to drive across it / thru large swaths, I am blown away by how much of it is *totally empty* / unused (for what it could-be being used for..) ..it just makes living in 'lego-stack cities' like NYC, et al, seem all the more idiotic..

..How different the US could be if every family-head was given a 2 acre-chunk of land, and the tools / knowledge to farm it, a wind-turbine / power-storage, well / stream-water-access / natural-gas standpipe, etc.. Surely, there's plenty of 'room'... (..oh, yeah, and then there's all the land in Canada... How would such a 'clean slate' / new-start be 'funded'? Just imagine what could be 'accomplished' if the "Gov" agreed to stop all Mil-spending - for *just ONE year* - (..surely, there's 'enough bullets to get-thru', ya? ..or, what about 'just' 2 years?

..Of course, such 'encapsulated utopias' would be predicated on a Gov that is not all stuck on the devil's jock / willing to leave everyone alone / a balanced, uncorrupt system of 'public works' (highway / bridge, etc maintenance / waste-treatment / recycling, etc. etc) and - most of all - People that were willing to work hard / be 'communal' / barter-oriented, etc, and not content to simply sit on their couch and let 'Comcast' define thier level of happiness..

..Anyhoo, I gotta bug, but.. seems to me, there's just an *awful* lot of 'waste' - in nearly every-facet of American-culture / practice / business / Gov / land, etc, and just 'looking inward' at achievable-solutions to just wrangle so much waste.. things could be 'betterER'.. ..But of course, yes - this still all does not help the fact that there are plethoras of far-bigger issues looming, ie: that the glaciers ARE going to nearly be gone / inundating 1/4 Billion-people's rice paddies, etc, in our great-grandchildren's lifetime - if not our grandchildren's.. among other 'packages of future fun'... +_+

..Wasn't there a 'Matt Damon movie' about all this, not too long ago?

    ciao

@ Planters (dang I don't know how to do that quote thing you guys do) anyway...

My friend of 40 years in Chicago...his sister in law was a trauma nurse at the hospital she worked in. Her and her husband had their retirement funds all allocated, a rapid pace to pay off the house, trying to manage their two sons college education, they were both working their asses off and saw each other for just a few hours a day...anyway, long story short...she was hit and killed by a snowplow in the parking lot of her hospital while walking in to go to work.

We only have the present moment...

Global, yes, but we have spores now (well, one experimental spore calles ISS). If an organism can spore, it can survive all sorts.

The Law of One series looks like it might be interesting. Sometimes the truth comes from the weirdest of circumstances.

One of the books that has helped me understand this crazy place is 'The Power of Now'. It's funny that you should mention both 'The Present' and newborns eyes, as the person I was travelling with this week both recommended 'The Power of Now' 2 years ago and this week, were discussing philosophical things and she mentioned that when her daughter was born, she looked inter her eyes and knew that she already knew everything!
This synchronicity makes it all the more likely

Unless you truly think we were seeded on this planet by some malicious alien race or we were the result of divine intervention and Satan really did screw us up (and I am not being allegorical here). Then, I don't see how we can be discussed as being outside of nature.
I dont think we are outside nature, I think we've evolved past the natural order of this planet. Science, ethics, money, and the need for power has fueled that. Bombs and guns are not natural tools, they are devices to empower, and control. We are far past the survival stage in evolution, and the only thing our intellect produces is consumption, destruction, and fear. If mankind was a true intellect we would have no wars, fear, pestilence, or hunger. We are a self serving race, and I'm sorry to say everyone has a hand in it, including me. The pettiness of our wants over weighs our needs, and the tactics we use to get those wants are unproductive, and destructive to this planet. Sorry, but I dont consider mankind as an intellectual beast. I think we play King of the Hill, and thumb our noses at everything beneath us just like little children playing in the park.
