Hello, it has finally happened here. Laser pointers now can't get thru customs.
I hope there are no problems with the gear we use.

Just got this from the NZ ministry of health web site.
I think I've seen bright LED flashlights with the starburst symbol, so according to the chart they're being regulated as well?
Yes well I am not to sure how onto it nz customs are. I was talking to kiwitinker on friday night. He said he had heard that anything over 10mw (pointer or not) isn't making it thru.
Has anyone else heard that? I might have to apply to customs for a licence.
You have a option in that you may fill out a form and send to the Director General of Health's representative requesting an exemption for a device before purchase. Its worded for hand held pointers, but if the rule gets applied to lab packages, make some phone calls to your regulator for instructions and submit the proper forms.
Exemption form for pointer imports:

If they blocked a show laser, then they are breaking their own rules.
One thing, don't EVER get caught breaking what exemption you applied for.
Have fun attending Astronomy Geek meetings :-)
