    I had a similar problem when fitting a stanwax board inside my Goldenstar projector, whilst the Stanwax board consumes minimal current, the PSU in the goldenstar's are only just man enough for the scanners, I removed the board and the scanners were all good again and got rid of the squiggly lines.
    So maybe check your power supplies too?

    since my original post I have determined that it is indeed a bad Y-galvo. Rather than ship the projector back to be fixed (it is under warranty), I purchased a set of Compact 506s from Pangolin. When I get back my modified scanner amps & new scanners I'll do a side by side comparison with this projector's twin.
