This pump is rated for continuous use, however it should not be left un-attended and the oil oil level must be monitored.

A proper single stage pump that can take the air load looks more like this, a classic Cenco.

Its easy to mod the Cenco for cooling the oil, too...
Any oil based pump your going to use is going to do a massive imitation of a poorly designed oil based hazer. So you need oil coalescing on the output. This can range from a tall piece of pipe, to steel wool in a can, to a professional coalescing rig.

i dont want to buy a second hand unit, you never know what your getting and what state its in

They are on the order of 700-900$ new. Second hand units are easily checked with a 20$ vacuum gauge for the units your looking for.
The low cost units sold for refrigeration service will not last in your application and obtain a poor ultimate vacuum. That forces you onto dual diaphragm pumps if you do not wish to do a little work.
Rebuild kits are readily available for all major brands of pumps, inexpensively. Cenco rarely changes the design, and it is not uncommon to see a 40 year old pump in service.

Bbe, sounds like you've had a bad experience. Pump oil usually has a mild smell at best, after all its designed to be low vapor pressure. Old pump oil (or the wrong oil) gets ate by bacteria and smells.
Andy: I like KNF dual diaphragm pumps, which is two pumps connected in series.

Ingersoll Rand is good, there are lots of others.
Again, rebuild kits consisting of a new rubber diaphragm, a seal, and a rubber check valve are readily available for diaphragm pumps rated for vacuum.
