Agreed. You made the comment a couple years ago when the list was a little smaller about the fact that it was a hodge podge collection and better to stick with a lot of just a few things. I tend to agree but, it's a learning process. And spending process.
That's another reason for needing to start selling some of this stuff off. I just don't use a lot of it any more. The only good thing is, sometimes you can set different things up as the mood strikes you. Pull something out and say, "Hey, I haven't used that effect in awhile." and rig it up. By the same token, all the clients are different so, it is probably easier in the long run to run one "set up" and do it all the time. What sometimes plays into that is whether the wedding has a head table or a "Sweetheart Table" since a head table restricts how much I can set up. And of course, what the client is paying.
I'm moving towards better quality lights in general and while LED is nice, I find I still like the Martin stuff that's halogen better at times. I want to move a bit towards more moving heads as well. Funny you mention the desk as I was just looking at a couple of Flying Pig desks on eBay but, they need some repair. I do wimp out a lot though and just use sound active mode on a number of things but, frequently slave multiples of the same fixture together with DMX cable so at least they're doing the same thing when they're turned on.
