No, its actually 2 separate water circuits with a small heat exchanger.
The DI circuit has a tiny reservoir which only has water temperature and pressure monitoring hence my issues.

But, I am curious as to how they were able to extract 80W vs at best 45W from roughly the same lamp current. I know the gain with these things is not linear (it isn't even a fixed slope). If the thermal lensing were tamed and the doping was adjusted then I wouldn't be surprised if they found more efficiency.
Both the lamp and YAG rod is longer than the 800 series and the lamp runs at a higher voltage. (300 volts max).
Also, there is an extra fold in the "Z"... I am no expert but I suspect this helps alot !

The need for external water cooling suggests the demand for cooling is higher than the 800 but then the case is nearly a 3rd the size in volume compared to the 800 series so they may just didnt have space to fit a closed system.

Sorry, I realise that I'm a bit late as this thread has progressed but... Wow, that rod took a beating! What a shame. This thread was fascinating, and there's some great advice here. Well worth the read. Good luck! I hope you get this beautiful device up and running again.

Sure we can! We can - and do - discuss these in full, 'spread-eagle' wide-open fashion... in PMs.. And, the 'why-not openly in-threads', is not due to some 'sekret PL-club', nope.. 'tis only due to the reasons stated in this long-arse post (see the second reply to stiffler, there, starting with: "Well, there's really no objection to discussing these.." http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...161#post262161 ..that's 'why', nothing 'sinister' or unfriendly-like..

Damn that sucks. I'm glad you seem to know what you're doing. An IR phosphor card may
have saved you some head scratching. (Or would it just catch on fire in that beast, maybe
on the lowest setting?) I don't know what I would do without my trusty little anti-stokes card.

Sad to say, design oversights like that seem to be common in more recent US-made junk.
(Still better than Chinese, though.) Not that I'm knocking the USA, but I have had some bad
experiences with the supposedly "superior quality" stuff made in the USA. Heck, I live there,
after all. But I bought a US-made garden hose a couple years ago that would not even
thread on. I returned it and bought a Chinese one and it threaded right on no problem. When
you can't even get hose threads right, that is just sad. Don't even get me started on the US-
made cars. All people care about anymore is the bottom line. Actually, almost anything is
hit-and-miss these days no matter where it's made. Instead of focusing on making things
better, it is all cost benefit analysis and buying form the lowest bidder.

Well... I now have a new YAG rod that "looks" 100% along with a spare cavity and good lamp !

I also have obtained another good KTP and oven assembly dirt cheap from ebay so just had to have it for a spare.
(Thanks to Mr Briggs for sending me the link )

All I have to do now is put it all back together and re-align it all. I have never done a full realign from scratch but I do have and 800 series service manual so will use that as a guide but I am fully aware they are not quite the same.

As for discussing these by PM instead of a public open forum... It kind of defeats the point of having this forum at all ...

Well, Si.. all respect.. (it ain't yer house.. Sure, 'not mine, either', buuut.. Preeetty-sure Spec doesn't wanna host open-discussions of how to hack these / allow just any ol' body to convert them / go blazing-about, etc - with no way to determine whether they are qualified (experienced) to or not - *here*... But, you're always welcome to ask him..

..otherwise, If you wanna start yer own PV-hack forum and publicly-post all the details on how to jack these, etc.. (and accept whatever liability may come of it..) welp.. Also pretty sure yer free to do that.. ..but, ya gotta remember - this site is hosted in the good ol' US of the NSA..

...I'm ALL for 'open information' - for those qualified to handle it / have demonstrated knowledge / responsibility in show-use of lesser-dangerous Class IV systems, but.. If you (or anyone..) starts posting stuff - here - about how to make these run, etc, I - for one - will fight tooth & nail to have it removed, Buddy.. We, here, love us some 'happy (to allow Outdoor Laser shows, KTP-use, specifically..) FAA', and aren't too keen on the 'International Pro Moron'-types here, that would just love to race out and do up some stupid-smack LOLZ-sht with it..

..so.. yah.. there's my uncalled for .02.. Looking forward to hearing how the 'rebuild' goes, tho..
    cheers..

    Jon,

    I agree.

Those who ignore history can be doomed to repeat it. These days, its not just the "international Prod Djs" that worry me. Post a cool modification leak, and see how long its shown on the front page of Gizmodoh, Maiker Faire, Ribbit, etc (names deliberately distorted to avoid automated trolling "spiders" or "crawlers"). The concept of a world wide "front page" link is bad when it opens the mind of the "wrong" people on how to hack a laser. That alone would surely bring lawyers and accidents. The blue diode section of this forum has "Google: EFF 47 USC § 230" on its frontispiece for a reason

Mophead set up a private forum for LScope/Infinity/Cobra owners to discuss mods and operation, perhaps it should be used.
