Day 4 - I think I'm approaching "too exhausted" to post everything that went on but, the morning was predominately dedicated to putzing around and getting things fixed. "Uncle Bill" as we affectionately refer to him, spend an informative hour and a half on all things Pangolin. We learned about expanding and shrinking the image size with the disco scan lens. Those who were there... know. As usual, there is always a lot going on, with much of the attention given to BEYOND, as well as the Compact 506. There is also a product coming to market soon that will be quite the buzz on this forum. You'll want your screwdrivers handy and It sounds like a game changer. There was limited allowed disclosure but, we'll simply say next time you're running to Home Depot for a PVC fitting or bag of potting soil... you may have something unexpected in your cart at the register.

Patrick Murphy got more in depth with ILDA and particularly some of the current issues and new proposals being reviewed regarding product labeling. Swami did an LSX seminar and Jon Robertson demonstrated some particularly new and exciting lumia effects and how to create them. It really got you thinking about new approaches and how sometimes the most trivial thing gives a totally unexpected beautiful result.

There were a number of shows run by Pangolin as well as another run through of some LSX shows and other custom work.

Many of us spend much of a long evening huddled in the ion work room as well as outside the door of the workroom, pacing and worrying much like expectant grandparents in a maternity waiting room, for the birth of some very intense green light. Unfortunately after some very meticulous cleaning and inspection by dsli_jon with the assistance of mixedgas, (these guys do NOT fuck around and, as is often posted here, the level of safety and careful, step by step communication is paramount) buffo's Laserscope was only able to produce some low power green. The necessary repairs are not "too" major but beyond the 'scope (to use a pun) of completion at SELEM.

SELEM nights are steadily dragging into dawns, as while things wrapped at the venue around 3:30am, the diehards moved to the conference room until who knows when.

It's a bitter sweet beginning to the day, knowing that SELEM 2014 will come to a close much faster than one ever wants but, by the same token, the excitement of preparing for what we hope will be an annual event - tonight's large public outdoor laser show - should keep the mind off the fact that painful reality of home and work will resume on Tuesday.

Thanks for the updates Brad. I really would like to attend, and reading your reports is a good substitute. Travelling in from Norway is not really healty for my piggy bank.

The video posted ny Hackzaw made my day. I can only imagine....

REALLY wish I could have attended this year... Still hoping you guys get to figure out the 40k scanner "issues," as it seems like there's still some discrepancies over which model is "da best..." Glad everyone's enjoying themselves...

If there was a noise I could make to indicate how tired I am, I would be too tired to make it.

Wow, what an awesome four and a half days! I just got home and unpacked (I'm one of the closest to the event location) and just beginning to get my thoughts together.

As usual, there was a lot going on and many wonderful things to see. Show and presentation schedules were readily available and frequently followed, believe it or not! Things went generally smoothly with only the occasional delay.

I spent a great deal of my time this year in the auditorium where I was able to watch some lovely, lovely light. This year's set-up ended up consisting of the beautiful warm light provided by team DZ/RGB-Gas for on screen graphics and 7 beautiful 3W projectors for beams (a combination of Plutos and Ables courtesy of Brad, Adam/Buffo, Johnathan/drm916). Telmnstr (Ethan) brought some great gear to capture video in the auditorium from multiple angles and I'm dying to see the footage. On the last night, another 9W projector was added to the mix for some of the abstract shows thanks to dlsi_jon. Audio this year was the best I've heard in the past three years I've been attending SELEM's thanks to a combination of nice equipment and a variety of tools to eliminate ground-loop hum and other audio challenges. It was quiet the classy set-up that was well administered by DZ. I believe the viewers and presenters had all we could want in such a venue, and the resulting laser shows looked fully awesome.

In addition to Brad's update daily updates on the activities, Saturday presentations ended with a "What's New In Lumia?" presentation by dlsi_jon. Personally, I couldn't believe my eyes. There were many photos taken which I'm sure will get posted at some point, but I believe most of us left that presentation fully enthused to experiment with some of the secret sauce Jon showed us. Wowzers! Oh, and my favorite quote from that session was Jon saying "it feels like an eyeball in your hand". I'm thinking someone should look in Jon's basement . . .

The most fun I had was talking to the scores of great SELEM attendees. To stand alongside this motley band of ambitious and entertaining madd scientists is truly an awesome experience. Thanks to everyone participating in planning, providing equipment and executing this awesome event, especially to folks like Buffo, DZ, RGB-Gas, Bradfo69 and the others who provided the resources and administration for the most critical elements of this event.

I'm exhausted, but already thinking about what we can do next year!

I'm DEFINITELY excited at some point to learn about all the neat things discussed and shown at this event... And hopefully by this time next year, I will be making the 225 mile trek to North Carolina to experience all that I missed... Hopefully I will have something to present to the laser community next year; as that is what I'm working towards right now...

Still, I know I asked this and it maybe got missed, but I was wondering if anyone managed to test out some of the different options and types of 40k scanners?

Regrettably no. We never got to the scanners. I'll update later. We're currently at Buffalo Wild Wings and nearly too tired to be conscious following what was an incredible show for the city of Newton. Packing the van twice in the span of 6-7 hours though just about killed me. Thanks to all the extra hands that helped to pack up my ridiculous amount of crap. Oh.... I bought a projector at SELEM. Imagine that!
