Wow, what an awesome four and a half days! I just got home and unpacked (I'm one of the closest to the event location) and just beginning to get my thoughts together.
As usual, there was a lot going on and many wonderful things to see. Show and presentation schedules were readily available and frequently followed, believe it or not! Things went generally smoothly with only the occasional delay.
I spent a great deal of my time this year in the auditorium where I was able to watch some lovely, lovely light. This year's set-up ended up consisting of the beautiful warm light provided by team DZ/RGB-Gas for on screen graphics and 7 beautiful 3W projectors for beams (a combination of Plutos and Ables courtesy of Brad, Adam/Buffo, Johnathan/drm916). Telmnstr (Ethan) brought some great gear to capture video in the auditorium from multiple angles and I'm dying to see the footage. On the last night, another 9W projector was added to the mix for some of the abstract shows thanks to dlsi_jon. Audio this year was the best I've heard in the past three years I've been attending SELEM's thanks to a combination of nice equipment and a variety of tools to eliminate ground-loop hum and other audio challenges. It was quiet the classy set-up that was well administered by DZ. I believe the viewers and presenters had all we could want in such a venue, and the resulting laser shows looked fully awesome.
In addition to Brad's update daily updates on the activities, Saturday presentations ended with a "What's New In Lumia?" presentation by dlsi_jon. Personally, I couldn't believe my eyes. There were many photos taken which I'm sure will get posted at some point, but I believe most of us left that presentation fully enthused to experiment with some of the secret sauce Jon showed us. Wowzers! Oh, and my favorite quote from that session was Jon saying "it feels like an eyeball in your hand". I'm thinking someone should look in Jon's basement . . .
The most fun I had was talking to the scores of great SELEM attendees. To stand alongside this motley band of ambitious and entertaining madd scientists is truly an awesome experience. Thanks to everyone participating in planning, providing equipment and executing this awesome event, especially to folks like Buffo, DZ, RGB-Gas, Bradfo69 and the others who provided the resources and administration for the most critical elements of this event.
I'm exhausted, but already thinking about what we can do next year!
