Laser porn thread ALERT! Coming from DZ's lab, this is gonna be good!
I spy some db15 connectors in there. G-120s?
If you're the smartest person in the room, then you're in the wrong room.
DZ loves his G120's and his turbo-tracks!
David, will this be done in time for SELEM? (And did you leave room for the Coherent Starlight to feed it?)
Adam
LOL! Yes, both scan heads have G-120's, and buffo is right, I do think they are awesome. Who else is using 20+ year old scanners and able to display the ilda test pattern properly at 30K?!
Adam, I've been thinking about that and have a plan. I'll end up having to split the beam via pbs on the optics bench this projector will sit on, then move one of the pcaom to the outside of the enclosure so I can turn it 90 degrees and then just send both beams into the projector. I'm sure it will work, just need to make sure I have enough additional opto-mechanics to make it happen.
So friggin cool... Can't wait to see it...
I love G-120s. The only reason why I stopped using them is because of how big the amps are. Seriously though, G-120s are still sexy. They are the best OG scanner out there!
I cannot wait to see this thing up and running. I presume it will be hooked to your analog console (presume, meaning, it *BETTER* be hooked to it! )
Based on what Adam said, I can only assume this is going to be fed by a yummy ion.
ONWARD! Mush Mush!

...I might know an old sea-dog..
..Killer werk, there D.. nice MM-1s.. Gr8 job on the scan-glass actuator-design..
..We use some (relatively) 'compact' card-style ones.. http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...chmentid=38775 ..can fit 2-3 of those, w/ a nice home-brew linear supply, etc in a 1U rack-mount.. The 138s are also pretty-kickin..
Looking forward to seein first-light... cheers..

....and armed only with his trusty 21 Zorgawatt KTiOPO4...
Do you have the optical bench for all this extra hardware to sit on, or do I need to make sure Jeff brings one? Let me know what you think we need... (We should probably chat on the phone about this soon, actually.)
Yep. Jeff (RGB-gas) has a really hot Coherent Starlight II. It's basically an I-70 mixed-gas unit, but because it doesn't have brewster windows it outputs an un-polarized beam. That's normally bad, since you need a polarized beam for the PCAOM to work. But in this case it's OK, since DZ's projector has DUAL PCAOM's, so we just split the beam with a PBS and send each half to it's own PCAOM. That way we have a true dual-head projector, and each one has PERFECT color control. After losses we see between 2 and 2.5 watts of white at the aperture of each projector.
The Starlight Jeff has is massively over-spec. Last time we metered it we were getting just over 6 watts (all lines) out of it. Really nice rig. So we mount that bastard up in the balcony and mate it to DZ's projector so we have two scan-heads firing towards the 12 x 20 screen on-stage. Been doing it this way since 2012, and it looks great! (Of course, running power and water all the way up there is a huge pain in the ass, but the results are worth it...)
Oh, and did I mention that this year BOTH scan heads will have all the cool AVI scan-through effects? Very nice! (And a huge thanks to DZ for putting this beast of a projector together!)
Adam
Got the pneumatics working pretty good, via DMX. Getting a bit closer to putting some photons thru this thing!
