Exclamation Cheap Chinese laser - teardown w/ pics

    Day 1:

Received the item yesterday, a DY-868 RGB ILDA-compatible projector claiming to have 30kpps scanners.

Before even fully unpacking it you could tell this was shoddy workmanship, by the end of 10 minutes with it there were a couple of clearly obvious issues with quality.

1st sign of everything not being right - a random 2 inch wire snippet laying right on top of the unit.

2nd sign - upon gently pulling the power cord out of the box it literally tore in half.

3rd sign - it powers on and goes to auto or sound reactive mode just fine, but the beam is about 12-15 degrees off center to the right.

Posting exterior pictures today only, will post the guts either tomorrow or Saturday along with a test scan.

I'm currently planning to fix up any obvious issues with it that I can and verify that the cooling is adequate for the heat generated, need to grab my buddy's oscillator and test output at some point too. I would definitely appreciate any advice yall can give an enthusiast, still reading a lot of FAQs, software/hardware discussions & other material.

**Note: this laser is intended solely for shop work to get practice at designing and testing animations and beam shows. I am a professional and have long-standing experience working with and repairing electronics, including soldering & customization of fixtures. I look forward to talking with anyone and everyone!

They went really gung-hoe on the hot glue and caulking as you can see.

The ILDA adapter isn't functioning so I can't run a test display to check the purported 30kpps yet, I'll post more when I get a higher quality adapter that my PC can detect. Still reading FAQ's, I really want to grab an oscilloscope and play with this a little bit before I start testing some of the animations I've been working on.

This laser is for shop-use only, I'm mainly just using it for idea proofing & as a tool for learning control software before I invest in a big-boy laser from a legitimate manufacturer. iShow came with it, but I'm already reading up on laserboy and some of the other software out there. Any suggestions would be welcome!

The only diode specs visible within the case are for the 638 nm 180 mw red. Not sure what output is actually coming out of it, the other two are unknown to me - manufacturer "documentation" was sadly lacking (as expected).

    This

might be the maker of your scanset--
but the PSU looks smaller and the mirrors are not the same so...

I cant make out whats written on the sticker that has been placed on your IC-
Mine have 10k, 25K and 35K written on them and what looks like '7 6'- might be the initials of an inspector/builder at CLP.
They make scansets for many low budget Chi-jectors...

CLP makes some of the most 'affordable' galvo scanners -- the 10K retails for 39$..

BRB with some more pics- nice thread

    edit update--

Super Qi Qi might go by super -kinki
Thier store is HUGE and aside from a few Chi-PJs they sell both body armour and latex stuff- whoa-- bondage city-- check this one out.

I have my doubts that any they sell are truly full color- more likely 7 color(TTL blanking)

But I do like to see both ILDA in & out- more need to add that..
