i didn't realize they were so cheap. it's tempting to buy a handful and build a couple quads with them.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

    Hi,

I bought one, but not tested yet (I mean push it till LED) .

Price per mW is cheaper than 170mW version, the only difficulty is about the size of the diode itself as you need to machine/find 3.8mm mounts.

They have their case isolated, so nice for a 2x or 4x build with 1x driver only.

For higher power modules, it will be interesting to calculate the financial cost of a (for example ):

    5W 638nm red with :

42 HL63603TG and all the mounts, mirrors, lenses etc... (stack of 2 * (3*7))

30 HL63133DG and all the mounts, mirrors, lenses etc... (stack of 2 * (3*5))

The beam size at the output of module (if same lenses are used in the 2 simulations) is more convenient -- "stacking-friendly" with the 170mW ones.

there is a massive cost didfference between this 120mw diode and the 170me diode, builds will be half price. but you just cant achieve as much power, as normal with lasers its power vs cost

i have a mill so machining a holder isnt an issue but they are very small and hard to work with.

optima lens gives a 1.5mm x 3.5mm beam where as a 2mm fl lens gives a nears as dam it 1mm beam by 1.5mm beam
and at distance dots are tiny

I've got 14 of these with Dave's his first 3.8mm diode mounts but there not deep enough for the diode, it needs an extra 1/1.5mm to fit.
When i finished my other 4 modules i'll start with these.

Hey - shoot me a reply to the PM I just sent when you can

Which diode are you using the 3.8mm housings with?

Here is a picture of a Nichia diode sitting in the 3.8mm housing:

There are slight variations between the TO38 cans between manufacturers, but for one to sit up by more than 1mm intrigues me a little as the lip on the TO38 can is only 1mm thick..

    [edit]

OK, it seems the odd one out id the opnext red - its lip is 1.5mm, whereas the housing was designed for 1/1.2mm lip.. So, the diode should only sit out by ~0.5mm, which should be OK since the main point of heat transfer is not via the rear of the diode casing.. Anyway shoot me a PM, lets see what we can arrange

No problems Dave, this project has a little latency because of my other job.
I want to build 2 reds with 4 of these diodes, i'm going to order one mount at the milling shop for 4 of these baby's.

I've tested one of the diodes and they are tough.
I got 290mw out of one little devil but didn't want to go further to blow it up.
