    Default Mobile Phone Power Banks

    totally none laser related

just got myself and the wife a power bank for our mobiles, they are awesome little devices (although I got a big one)

it got me thinking, they only use the 18650 battery so nothing special. would you be able to buy just the electronics and make your own??
the battery only outputs 3.7v so im guessing theres some form of dc-dc convertor to take it to 5v and then just a couple of usb connectors.

anyone seen anything of interest on the web??

Have a look at Sparkfun or adafruit

They both have LiPo charger/booster products but they are only for single cell batteries, not sure what it would take to modify for multicell as some sort of cell balancing circuit would be needed

I'm using the Sparkfun one for my LPM (with a 5V to +-15volt DC-DC invertor)

aren't those powerbanks heavy for carrying around? how much of the power will it recharge? isn't it better to be prepared and power up your devices at home in advance?

The small ones aren't heavy they are small, they charge a phone to about 80%
The big one I got gave 5 full charges but yes it is big and heavy, but I'm happy with that

When at a festival you need power and when on my bike running sat nav I need power
