A little Birdie Told me....
Americans, I just got a letter in the mail about a local conference FDA/CDRH is hosting on medical "Unique Device Identifiers" and Enforcement procedures. The UDI would be a unique number identifying the manufacturer of a device and the serial number of each device allowing ease of enforcement and rapid tracking of device failures that affect users and patients.
While I see no requirement for it coming the laser show way, I can see the possibilities if applied to laser device manufacturing, especially imports.
Considering their senior legal counsel is presenting it, its coming to the medical world. Think of it as a MAC number for every medical device made.
JUST A FYI.....
In a laser situation
This would be like going back to the 80s and 90s where there was a requirement for OEM LASING parts to have unique serials and the manufacturer had to keep records for seven years....
