    Pictures to follow Chris.

Final analysis is.... the original Pluto with 532, 445 and 637 is sharper and whiter that the direct diode combination of 520, 637 and 462. At least in mine. The all diode projector is now much improved with replacing the green but still doesn't hold up to the original. 520 green is more green than the 532 which convinces you that what we've looked at all these years is more yellow but, that's not a new revelation. Side by side you see a difference but, if you saw each one independently it's not that apparent. 445 and 462 on the wall is not "that" considerably different. Yes, it's more blue but I put some blue cues up on the wall and many were very close. The big difference, and I saw this with Adam's when he had them here a couple months ago is in the beams. 462 in the air is much more blue side by side and 445 really looks purple. The all diode projector does produce some shades of brown that the 532,637,445 just can't produce.

In the end, I'll probably buy one more all diode projector at some point with the 520,637, 462 just so I have a pair but, I think my personal preference in most cues is the 532,637, 445 combo. The quality of the white and the overall sharpness is winning out over the novelty of having water or American Flag blue in graphics. I'd like to see a module with 445 and 462 combined and I know some people are building them.

    Off to take pics...

Yes, I agree and this is what I find disappointing. All these discussions about the preference for 520 vs 532 and 637 vs 650 and 445 vs 462 seem to me to miss the obvious value of additional colors as opposed to alternative colors. If you are limited to three narrow band colors then the chromaticity diagram will still only be built up by a matrix of tripods. With these new diodes being common and affordable there should be a MAJORITY of new projectors both commercially and amateur built that incorporate all 6 colors. This can be done with pairs of each shade PBS combined to produce 3 broad band colors or with 6 addressable colors. Pangolin supports up to six colors and so even this is already really easy to do.

Humm.. pics reveal a little more. I saw some halo'ing around the 520 green in person but the camera really picked it up - and all through the pattern.

Oh, and yes you can do X and Y axis flips with the touchscreen with ILDA attached but, you can't adjust color intensity or overall brightness. Gimme a real pot I can turn or a switch I can flip. And... the ape is better but still not as sharp as the original Pluto.

    Some nice shots there.

From the pics I also can't see any practical difference between 445 and 462. Maybe you've got a 462 diode at the lower end of the wavelength range and a 445 at the upper.

To my eyes, 532 still looks greener as well, probably the "fluorescent pop". I'd describe 532 vs 520 as grass green vs pine needle green. I'll take the grass green!

The sharpness in diode though is certainly disappointing, and it looks as though the culprit is definitely the green as the blues and reds look quite similar on beam specs.

To me though by far and away the biggest loss with 520 is the yellow. I mean apart from your local train spotter, who needs 50 shades of brown? Most people need a nice clean crisp yellow though for both beams and graphics.

So far as mixing 462 and 445 goes, do they have the same driving requirements? If so, it surprises me that with so many multi-diode modules around someone doesn't just do a fixed mix of 1 diode 445 + 1 diode 462 in a 2 diode module ie 2W ish module.

That cuts the cost out of having 2 modules and the complexity of having 4 modules for colour balancing purposes when finding white.

Maybe they don't mix well, 1:1, I wouldn't know. But it has to be worth a try as a cheap and dirty way of mixing them, surely. I don't personally see there's much to lose.

So, it sounds to me like it's not necessarilly the demise of DPSS 532 just yet, we just need to find a way to get 'them' to make a reliable one with decent beam specs.

I must say, I was quite surprised how large the beam at aperture got going from 1W to 2W of 532, with the end result that side by side there wasn't much to call between them [brightness wise] when viewed in the air.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

I have also seen 520 and 532 working together and at this moment in time I'm sticking with 532. As for modulation of dpss green, both of my Laserwave 1W modules have very good responding modulation, the best I've seen of a DPSS.
