Mitsubishi has it's own laser safety exam to pass in order to be certified for there laser view line of projection tvs. I wish i could link it but it's not a public web page. I used to fluff my feathers so to speak as i was the only one at the repair shop to have this certificate. I still dream of harvesting the class 4 lasers from a scraped tv but in my area they never sold well.
One of the first questions on the link in the first post on laser class is a trick as they just classes of lasers that don't exist

What am I doing wrong? I don't see any test? Am I suppose to see a test when I click on the link in the first post?

    http://www.ehs.psu.edu/radprot/laser_safety_quiz.swf

When I click on the link, I see the following page with no obvious thing to click on to take a test:

    @Bluefang

The LSO classed at most universities are not geared towards Laser shows. But , of course, the are many topics that overlap-- important for ANY laser uses.

I am still confused... I'm not looking for information on laser shows - but was interested in the "25 questions about laser safety"... Yet, when I follow the link, I can't figure out how to get to the 25 questions about laser safety.

Is this only for UPENN alumni or is there some type of registration needed before you can access this test?

    sorry

that link at one time went to a quiz- & there must be hundreds more like that as most every university has something going on involving lasers and they msut also be as safe as show operators need to be..

This thread went in a direction i did not think about, so i am changing it a little.

I wanted to know roughly how much i knew or needed to know before taking an LSO exam-

You get 180,000+ hits when you search [laser saferty quiz]-

use the brackets to narrow search.

so tons to choose from-BUt I do not want to send info just to get answers and feel we have plenty savvy members who can answer >99% .

    >>.BUT... the other quiz I posted we got posts of those who took it and some discussion about the answers and to sum up -- some things were posted were a 'spoiler' for those who had not yet taken the test/quiz-

So i have found a *few* more sites with quizzes I can copypasta (most have something that blocks me from doing that) and i took the quiz- so i am starting another Part2 thread that deals with the answers and all debate on those questions we do not all agree on.-- You can post your answers like I will have done asap.

so ways to 'test Laser IQ' with quizzes in THIS thread-

with answers-and debates on the new one (part2 of Laser IQ)

and we can create our own 'key' for the correct answers- and thus dont need to register-
    +
meanwhile find Coherants website and take the quiz they have there OR find one in your search and place it and/or a link in THIS threrad PLEASE but leave the answers and how YOU did for the other Thread.-- Nobody should feel they must post thier answers or score- my goal was not to start a 'brainac' pissing contest..not that its really gone that way but it could..

On the question we were uncertain about ILDA LSO instructor has sent his thoughts- and I do agree with Greg that it was worded poorly. I have posted his reply.

I will post link to next quiz and new thread HERE asap.

when a laser is temporarily placed in the lab
    all of the above
    14
When should a laser warning light be turned on?

only when a class 3a or higher laser is used
at all times even when the laser is not in operation
all times when a laser of class 2 or higher is in operation
only when a class 4 laser is used

I am only going to link this one..(LaserQuiz #3)
its from U of ARIZONA SO be warned - #8 made me almost spit milk outta my nose.

This is a long quiz- and again AFAIK we have to make our own key.

    http://fp.optics.arizona.edu/opti471...SafetyQuiz.pdf

I needed you to see the color diagrams- so just a link.

Not sure where they are going wih that last thing??

this one may not be easy for some..

please do not post about this quiz in this thread-

at least nothing about the key or questions.

ok time for a stupid question when it comes to specular reflection, what is the difference from it being a flat or curved surface ? when it comes to class 4 power levels i consider any reflection, direct or specular to be bad no matter what the shape of an item is, that and the quiz on the other thread has pop ups

flat reflects about the same beam size--curved, if convex will lessen the power per cm2- Concave can make the beam smaller so more power--AFAIK
