    Wait, so if my beam is very wide horizontally, not vertically, does that mean it's passing through correction optics already?
    I haven't checked the insides of my red module. Would be funny to find out the lens on the aperture are actually for fixing the beam, not the collimation lens, and are just not properly rotated, hehe.

    Very wide horizontally means it's not corrected. If you look at it in the near field it will be like |, so it starts narrower but diverges faster.

    Oh, so it starts as | but quickly turns into a --- since it diverges more in X than Y (Z).
    Thanks, I finally got it. Guess I need a prism pair or cylindrical lens pair first.
    It's just that my red module had a pin to possibly rotate the lense on the aperture so I assumed it was a cylindrical lens.

    Is this just a multimode red thing are do greens and blues also start as |? That would explain why the knife edging is done in vertically.

    All high power diodes currently available are multimode, which means they are a stripe and they have a fast axis and slow axis.
    The lens on your module is not cylindrical. It sounds like either the collimator or part of a telescope.

    The idea is to expand the fast axis very quickly so that its about the same width as it is tall (square) at the output of the optics. The divergence is hopefully similar in both axis at that point.

    More big diode modules !

    Beam is pretty big ( 5 to 5.5mm ) but divergance is still realy low ! (1.1mrad full angle)
