Those MG lasers were notoriously unreliable. AFAIK the only place that will work on them is OSLS in Florida. You can almost certainly replace it with a Chinese laser for less than the repair cost. Not that Chinese lasers are notoriously reliable or anything, but it should be an improvement.

Huhh??? That's the first time I've ever heard that. I have one, and now you have me a bit worried. What's the problem with them?

The problems units I've encountered had either sudden pump diodes failures or damaged crystals. As in full power last show, almost no power now with no obvious reason for the drop. The power supplies seem reasonably reliable, but there are no schematics or any tech info floating around so they're not repairable and the older type can't have the diode current and various temperature changed w/o some factory programmer so they are not interchangeable.

When your asking a 20 year old Generation I DPSS to live longer, that is a very high expectation. Most of these should be having the diodes die from old age by now. Lifetime is proportional to the number of hours the pump diode has ben lit. The PSUs are well built. The heads, not so much. Yet still far better construction inside then a Chinese laser.

When these came out they were state of the art, for the mid 1990s.

I have actually been planning on it and meant to do it before we left SELEM. This makes me a wee bit scared. I have enough crap that doesn't work right.
