It seems everyon these days think the cloud is going to be around forever, but... what happens when they pull the plug on your servers and you can't play anymore? It's like you're not buying a game anymore... you're buying a license to experience the game while they feel like it.

Yes, it has what is called solo online mode, which means you still see the world as it is influenced by other players, but without encountering them directly. Trading markets for instance. There is talk of an offline mode at some point. However, the game uses peer to peer rather than relying on central servers for its player interactions so should be a bit more resilient in the future
