    Default Interesting Music Sales Stats

Thought I'd post this on here.

Often been said that Dubstep is the latest craze but interestingly Digital Music News report that Beatport have just released their sales stats by genre year on year, and this shows Dubstep is actually the lowest selling genre of 2014, closely followed by breaks and the DNB but quite a bit higher just below mid table (should that be RNB?)

Trance and Progressive house sit around the middle with Deep House being the biggest seller.

Full chart of year on year stats here:

Serious question? (Drum & Bass, ie jungle)

If only the definitions of what constitutes progressive were accurate...

Ahh of course, Dumb and Bass!

I only listen to hard trance, so beyond that I lose track of it all really.

The problem is, the names that are used to describe genres shift over time anyway. Anyone else remember what used to constitute hard house back in the early 90's? Certainly a long way removed from Tripoli Trax/trade style HH of later years.

Equally, 'Deep House' of recent years is nothing of the sort really.

'RnB' (Rythmn and Blues!??) is the biggest joke of the lot though really.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

I think you have to bear in mind that this is digital music sales, most likely to DJs/wannabe DJs, so the genres are likely to be quite focussed to that sort of audience.

Yeah Beatport is pretty much the leading DJ download resource hence why it's content is essentially dance music.

If you want rock etc, then I guess you're looking at itunes or a similar equivolent rock resource.

While I don't pretend to understand any of it, this website does a good job of breaking down all the different types of electronic dance music into individual sub-categories, complete with descriptions and sample music clips to show the differences in each style. I'm sure it's all open to one's own interpretation and all, but this site does seem to have more information than most.

Truthfully though, I'm not nearly dedicated enough to learn all this! I just listen to the stuff I like.
