Default Using a +/-20V PSU on a +/-15V scanner board

I bought a set of these scanners from Winni: http://www.goldenstarlaser.com/al20k-p-301.html

The PSU she sent with it produces +/-20V. The board is marked +/-15V. I've asked Winni if this is the recommended voltage but no reply yet. Perhaps she sent the wrong PSU.

Is this within a normal range of over-driving? Has anyone tried this before? I recall someone recommending increasing the voltage of a scanner set marked +/-12V to +/-15V on another thread somewhere, so I'm hoping this is normal practice.

Problem solved. I adjusted the trimpot on the PSU and dialled the voltage down to 15V.

Be aware that most scanner amps need +/- 20V minimum to power the +/- 15 volt regulators on the board. They then have a +/- 15 Volt outlet on the board for powering DMX cards in the projector.

Just be careful with the markings.

Thanks, Steve. What would you suggest?

John from Goldenstar suggested I might damage it if I tried 20V:

For the galvos, it is necessary to use the +/-15v power supply. It is not the 15v.
And the 20v power supply would damage the circuit.

That email very clearly states +/- 15. I'd use +/-15.

    Seems sensible.

    Thanks again.
