All software has a learning curve usually proportional to its capabilities and unique features. Pointing with a mouse is in no way easier than tapping a key.

I just ordered a computer with dual intel Xeon E5-2683v4 16 core CPUs (32 cores) and 256GB DDR4 EEC RAM, 1.92TB SSD and a really nice NVidia 4GB GDDR5 video card with 4 output ports.

That should run Ubuntu rather well!

Yeah, but does it come with a modem? That's the real question. :-)

Sometimes progress is like canoeing through wet cement.

    https://laserboy.org/code/LB_06_16_2021.zip

New development version. Just source code and example txt files.

Plus instructions for building from source in MacOS and Windows.

This has all the newest features in a version that has no multithreaded code.

I haven't done anything with the txt examples or the doc files. When I get all that updated, I'm going to do an official full public release.

The settings menus are all now in a new [Tab] menu sub system. So from just about any place in the LB menus, you can change settings with [Tab] {category} {setting}.

This version can read 3 channel waves like those made in OsciStudio.

    Feedback much apriciated.

Cool. I'll give it a spin pretty soon.

    How's your new toy?

    It's pretty neat.

Not exactly what I expected though. It turns out that on this dual CPU mobo each CPU has its own 128GB RAM. I'm not sure how that works but I guess I'll figure it out.

It's super quite which is nice but it puts out a steady amount of heat.

The single thread speed is really not much faster than my previous 8 core AMD system.

But if I run make with the argument -j32, this tells make to run in as many as 32 cores.

What takes about 2 min 40 sec to build LB in a single core can be done in about 34 seconds.

What's really impressive is the video card. WOW. This thing can decode and render streaming video of any size to a 4K screen at full speed with no artifacts at all.

I imagine video editing on this system will be wonderful.

(Last one! Who's going to get it?)

This thing takes forever to POST and get through the BIOS. I guess it has a lot to test, like 2 CPUs with 16 cores each and 2 banks of 128GB ram.

I guess the video card has 8GB. I thought it was a measly 4GB.
