Nice. How much did it cost?
It sounds like the old one had poor regulation, and if the laser PSU was using the input voltage as a reference on the assumption that it was good, then when the diode current was low, input voltage could rise, and the raised reference might have caused the beam to appear slightly when it shouldn't have. Whatever the cause, when blanking, a diode should be driven at just below lasing threshold, and in this case it wasn't, it must have been above that threshold. If the problem does recur, ask Lasever what exactly should be changed to make sure that the blanked state (zero volts in) is truly below lasing threshold.

    Hi Doc

It was this item number on Ebay... 330120351499

It cost £9.80 + £3.80 postage, excellent value I thought.

I believe the guy has a few of them left.

    Cheers

    Jem

All gone... They look nice. Possibly older than I want, efficiency only 76% when >85% is now an easy spec to get, but the line and load regulation is excellent. Btw, at some point can I buy some more of those screws? Those are great. I found I could drill to 1.1mm in brass and thread the hole with one of them.
