I saw this in action at SELEM. Blue Feng did a great job on it!

As I discussed with him, I'd love to get this working on the FB3, but we're "twice removed" from that on MAC right now. We'd need a MAC driver, and then on top of that a kind of interface layer between applications and the driver. If there are any experienced MAC programmers please get in touch with us so we can start the process of making this work.

    Best regards,

    William Benner

Thanks Bill! Great meeting you - and support for another DAC would be awesome! FB3 support has certainly been requested more than once. One possibility would be to add FB3 support for the Windows version of Maxwell, and add support for Mac as/if development OS X development proceeds.

I learned SO MUCH at SELEM. The demo of the oscillator / abstract stuff you showed my with the free-running oscillators is certainly something I have been thinking about as an added feature. Also, getting some "hands-on" time on a real Z-5 was super awesome. The output of the Z-5 has to be seen in real-life. It is beautiful. Right now, Maxwell is more of a Lissajous frame-based software synth, and not really a software version of something like the Z-5 with free-running (yet syncable) oscillators - it could be, but initially I have focused on the integer period / Lissajous ratio based generator.

My main focus right now is going be to get a 1.0 release out! Squash the known bugs, add tighter integration with the APC40MKii - fix some of the optimization issues (or as many as I can) - and get it released, then proceed with your standard development cycle of feature addition and bug fix releases.

An FB3 SDK suddenly isn't impossible anymore for Pangolin? Damn, and I thought miracles were a thing of the past!

Your demo was so enjoyable, can't wait for future release. Thanks for your work on this!

... never was impossible and some innovative multimedia theater installations and other things have been using it for years! At SELEM we also showed videos of some of the large-scale fully interactive things people are doing with the BEYOND SDK.

These SDKs are, and have been available (hehe "to those who qualify") -- and I keep saying here on PL that all anybody had to do is get into a dialog with us to learn more (hehe to learn if you qualify)...

Anyway, great seeing everyone and also seeing your development Blue Fang. Keep up the great work, and feel free to send me a PM if you need anything.

That is good to hear but if you made the api publicly available then projects like Maxwell would support the FB3/4 straight away instead of having to get into contact with you. It's an extra obstacle. Meanwhile other products from competitors with an open API can be supported without delay.

Pangolin has had an SDK since 1989. We were the very first company to offer such, and applications built today are still compatible with our SDK originally released on the Amiga platform. Nearest I can tell, there are more applications using our SDK than any other. Moreover, even the quality of those applications is better -- a small (and dated) sampling can be found here:
    http://www.pangolin.com/LD2000/LD2000_sdk.htm

For our new and enhanced SDK, we don't consider it to be an "obstacle" that people approach us. Basically, we like to get into a dialog with people, find out their needs, then help guide their developments and use or our SDK and evaluate which (if any) additional functions must be added. This "fully interactive" approach is far more powerful than just putting out a document and saying "here it is -- good luck with it!"

And our approach works! Did you see the applications being done using our SDK in the videos we presented at SELEM?

Looking at buying a controller to have for this and also beyond. Will the apc40-mkii work or do you need an original apc-40?

Polished, we're getting way off track here. Please write to me privately. This thread is about Maxwell, which I thought was quite good. Again, Blue Feng did a great job and I tremendously enjoyed speaking with him at SELEM.
