Well... I FINALLY found the time to fire up < Maxwell > with my Etherdream DAC.

    Wonderful !!!...Just GREAT !!

SOoooo many knobs....SOoo little time !!!

If you want a Users Guide to the Etherdream DAC... see here....( One is not supplied from Illumination Supply )

    .

    I am convinced....now more than ever....Maxwell needs to auto=link up with music.....I will pay for this !!!!!!10X Maxwell $$....for sure....maybe more !!

Sounds like a PITA....but....most good things demand a great deal of effort to master the complicated....and make it look simple !!!

THANK YOU BF for Maxwell....it a true gift !!!!!

Small bump to announce the latest version of Maxwell:

    - Adds support for Syphon which allows users to export the OpenGL output to any Syphon capable VDJ app (Resolume, VDMX, Virtual DJ, etc)
    - Adds support for the Helios DAC

Thanks, BlueFang! I just tested the new version with both the Helios and LaserDock DACs and its working well. I find it really satisfying to make a cool abstract in a few seconds using Maxwell. I need to spend more time with this and incorporating the results into shows!

That's good to hear... I was a little worried my QA team might have been spending a little too much time napping and not enough time QA-ing...

Some "caught in the act" photos of said "QA team":

Been playing with it, enjoying it. Have a odd issue on a dell 5040 with intel HD graphics. Error's out with Cannot create DirectX/OpenGL interop, then it will not run. It appears to be a common issue with "spout" and this particual graphics card and DX11

EDIT: del finally released a driver update that corrected the issue.

Good to hear. This is usually an OpenGL driver issue - for future reference, I have made available the previous version of Maxwell (1.2.2) - which does not include Spout support - and relies much less on advanced OpenGL tech.

Been using Maxwell quite a bit these last two months and ...

    I have a few questions...

    1. Is there a way to reset the actual phase of an oscillator rather than the phase modulation dial?
    2. Can you sync the phase of one oscillator with another?
    3. Is there a way to get dots and lines with intensity blanking?

Also have a few feature requests...

    1. If you add tap to tempo, can you add a way to sync modulation to divisions and multiplications of that clocked tempo, such as 1/2 or a 1/4 and 2x and 4x?
    2. Use the 2 banks of oscillators separately for two lines, rather than just allowing for crossfading.
    3. Add a knob to directly affect phase.

Potential bugs... I say potential due to a potential lack in my understanding

    1. Setting the z oscillator to 0 and turning the amplitude up causes the image to oscillate in the z axis.
    2. Relabel phase offset to frequency offset because it appears to be controlling frequency rather than phase.

I am having fun and am currently attempting to get Ableton to modulate all the things based on the tapped tempo!

P.S. I still owe you videos...

If not, this would be a great enhancement for recording subtle changes between two patterns.

Yeah, the ability to link controls generally would be really great, size, etc. I asked about some of that pre-Xmas.
There is some cool stuff coming though

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

    1. Not at the moment - this is actually already on the feature request list
    2. Yes - just plug in a patch cable from one oscillator to the sync input of the other
    - ok jokes aside - I didn't think that when I decided to create an "analog like abstract generator" - you guys would want to do analog like "things". But yes, as the saying goes - It's just software - anything is possible. Though something like this is probably something that would be a 2.0 feature when I get a chance to take everything I have learned from 1.x and totally rewrite everything from scratch.
    3. Have your tried turning the "int freq" knob all the way up? And then also you can try to turn the "int freq global" knob all the way up - the two will have some cancellation with each other - but play around. If that is not what you mean, then just shoot me a more detailed description or some example abstracts.

    1. Tempo modulation is a top priority. Tap tempo is easy - creating all of the modulation routings that tempo can effect is not a small task.
    2. Yes - I want this too. Should each set also get there own color modulation - or should that stay global? We are starting to run out of screen real estate...
    3. Just stand upside down - see if that works...

Added to my list of things to investigate.

Yeah, using Ableton as a MIDI recorder / playback / timeline hack is pretty cool. Wouldn't it also be cool if we were all free to spend 12 months creating the world's best laser app with no other jobs to get in the way? That is only half joking...
