    Just curious. Can you ditch the expensive theta lens and do the same thing in software? Why not? Just do the same thing as the lens in software to the data.

    ... I did this with my first buildups with a motorized linear stage, moving the fokussing lens - but then the possible speeds for scanlines are related by the "focus-shifter", what's some decades slower than galvoscanners can achieve.

    A valid strategy for slow focussing drives would be to laser-engrave in concentric "ring zones" from center to outside, so the scanners will process all the data in the actual "focus zone" ... then the lens will propagate a millimeter to set the next "focus zone", this ring area is processed too ... and so forth ...
