The thing you are looking for is commonly called a DAC.
An FB3 is a rather expensive DAC.
There are several DAC models. The one you want will depend on your price range (from $50 to $5000) and whether you need software with it or not.
The FB3 is expensive (about $100 more than the "equivalent") but you get really great software with it, great customer service and a large library of art to get you started. It is pretty turn-key for people just starting out with lasers. For someone starting out, I wouldn't recommend anything else.
If you're the smartest person in the room, then you're in the wrong room.
I have RiyaLite DACs for $110.
if i was to purchase a DAC of another brand (not Panagolin) would it work with panagolins Quickshow software?
The answer is probably yes.
It depends on the transportability of the ILDA file format or other open spec vector art formats.
The real question is "What kind of Pangolin software can you get without buying any Pangolin DAC?"
LaserBoy is free and it can export all section formats if ILDA, compatible with almost all laser vector art applications.

All software has a learning curve usually proportional to its capabilities and unique features. Pointing with a mouse is in no way easier than tapping a key.
Hi William,
Laser diodes from DTR, a member on here, diode mounts and corrective lens sets from Dave, another member, drivers from Dave or BBE, all members..
I like Pangolin as it works straight out the box, I have not tried any other DACs or software but have heard good things are also out there, What speed scanning ar yo wanting, just beam work? or graphics, have a word with Stanwax,
Hope that helps Tony.
