    Default Amateur radio question

Does anyone know how to look up the original date an amateur call sign was issued?

All software has a learning curve usually proportional to its capabilities and unique features. Pointing with a mouse is in no way easier than tapping a key.

I looked at that and all I get is the last time the licence was renewed, not the original issue date.

I would just ask my dad, but he's going to be 90 soon and I wanted to surprise him with a cake that looks like a QSL card.

I think he's been a ham since the late 40s.

Even after you click on the license info after the search result and then the "admin" tab?

Maybe I'm missing it. I only see a renewal in 2007.

    Hello,

I just went to the linked ULS site and entered my call sign.

I clicked my call sign after the search and went to the admin tab, I only see my last renew date which was in 2008.

I was first licensed in 1980.

Here is a link explaining why you can't lookup when a amateur radio license was first issued:

    Wish I could help me.

That's a bummer. That's a whole lot of information about FCC licences that is supposed to be public domain that seems to be gone forever.

My dad got his Extra Class Licence way back when that actually meant something.

He has kept his original call sign from when he got his Novice Class.

    Sometimes progress sucks.

You might try contacting the ARRL in CT. They might have some form of archives or bureau records that could assist.

    I just asked him.

Turns out he was into building his own short wave receivers and stuff way back in his teens. He wanted to get a licence but along came WWII. Then college, marriage and a few kids. So he finally got it in 1964, the year I was born.

As far as I know, 1964 is when the Universe came into existence.

Is anyone else going to go to the Mansfield Ohio Hamfest tomorrow?
