    Default Old Russian Lasers

The seller of this old Russian he-ne put the head only on Ebay thinking the power supply was too heavy to ship. I asked him if he had others and he did, so I made a deal for the lot and these are the first to arrive from him in the Ukraine. The first is a 1991 He-Ne system marked "LGI-201". The head features an adjustable fiber optic launcher on the output end, and a four-pin connector with ground wire on the rear. It's held on top of the power supply by two metal straps. Looks like a start button!

The second is the guts of a lamp pumped dye laser head. The seller is still looking for the covers and more info about it.

Also in this first group is a power meter with its detector made in 1992. Looks like the switch goes from 633nm to a settable wavelength, and a silicon detector.

that is neat, i like the symbol on the back of the power meter, that would look nice on a warning sign

Looks like I was wrong about the meter markings. The switch selects CW or timed operation modes, the button starts the timing, and the time is set on the white controller. Maybe an exposure controller for holography?

Here are a few more lasers from the Soviet Union and around the time of their break-up. The first is a 1985 LG-78 He-Ne. It gave about 2mW and was apparently in use for a very long time. The second is a 1991 LGN-208A He-Ne with a brick supply.

And this one is an AFL-1 He-Ne. The power supply is marked "CCCP" and dated 9/91, and the head is dated 1992, making this a great system straddling the change. There's a fiber optic launcher on the front of the head. Turning the ring on the nose brings a beam block into the beam path.

A few more from Russia. First two pictures below show model OKG-13 He-Ne heads, as described by Sam goldwasser here: http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/laserhen.htm#henokg13 The first is from 1975 and the second one from 1976, as seen on the date stamped on the tube.

The pic below shows a couple of model OTH-350 He-Ne laser heads, a shorter version of the OKG-13. I got these and the three OKG-13s (a third head not shown from 1984) in a lot, with a couple spare parts. None have their screws and all the tubes are cracked but not destroyed (though a Brewster window on one is broken off). All the mirrors are trashed. The heads all cleaned up nicely though, and are lookin' good.

Copper vapor laser 10 watts , with power supply 2500 watts. This product has been manufactured by the decline of the defense complex of the USSR. Naturally all the dead. The film is proposed to use a laser for promotional purposes.

Two more He-Ne lasers from the former Soviet Union. Both are model ATM-01 from 1991, and include fiber optic launchers on their outputs. Looks like their version of the Spectra-Physics model 135, the one with a handle on the back. Both are operational I believe. These are the first I've seen from Russia that include a large aluminum cathode, but I can't find a getter. Looks like the tubes have the characteristic large round Brewster windows, but I didn't want to disassemble a mirror mount for fear of disturbing the alignment.

This one is not as sexy as those above, but has to be included nonetheless. It's the 1992 model NOM-3, a packaged diode laser giving 10mW CW at 850nm.

    nom nom nom?

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.
