Sorry to hear about the death of your diode. These diodes are puzzling to me.
I have four of these diodes I received for Christmas but I have not powered them up yet as I am
totally unsure of the proper polarity. My diodes have only two pins, there is no pin attached to the case. Both datasheets I have found show
three leads. DTR's datasheet is too blurry to decipher and the other one I found is numbered differently.

I would greatly appreciate if you can tell me how you connected your diode to get it to work.

While looking at the back of the diode (Pin side), with the larger of the three flange notches up, is the Anode on the left or right?

Thank you in advance for your help.

On the left is the Anode (+).

Also when I check the polarity with my Voltmeter, maybe I start to damage the diode
(I choose my Vomm with the less volts to check diodes 2.5 Volts)

    I hope this help

    Thank you megaton.
I just powered up one of my diodes per your advice and it works beautifully! You saved me from frying
at least one diode, I am sure.

    Glad to help

By the way, at what max current are you running your red?

    Cheers,
