The ceiling is 15 foot up and plenty of 110 volt sockets--about 100 amps overall.

    Questions:

    1) Can the mirrors be covered?

    2) Is there a ladder available that can reach the ceiling?

    3) What is the composition of the floor? Will legs of a stand sink in it or can it be smoothed to make it level. Or, if not, is there plywood to lay down that truss/stand legs can sit on?

    4) Can a car be driven into the room for unloading/loading? If not are there hand trucks that can roll on that floor? (I don't see tire tracks and speakers are 100lbs each.)

    5) Do you have sufficient tables/chairs for control station(s) and guests to sit on?

    6) Are all lights on the same switch or, are they divided into zones with different switches?

    7) Are there smoke detectors of any sort that could be affected by haze/fog?

    8) What is the approximate width and length for cable purposes? Speaker cables in particular.

    9) Do you have hand held radios? That's possibly a long distance to yell back to someone when setting up zones. (I have a set I can bring.)

I just spent about an hour reading and digesting this: http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...21393-NELEM-II so, some of the questions are answered - 2, 5 and 7, primarily.

It's funny... when you mess with diodes I guess you can afford to have significantly higher powered projectors versus buying commercial ones. I'm wondering how much sense it makes to have a number of 3 watters. Oh heck... it's lasers... of course moar is better but, I KNOW I'm going to leave either very, very envious or, gung ho to start working on actually building something with the mountain of parts I have.

This should be a fun weekend! I fear only the border collie will appreciate my level of "techy"ness though. I suspect I'll spend more time listening and nodding sagely than adding to the conversation.... we'll see.

    Brad,
The border collie "Lance" loves lasers. He knows when I'm going to the shop to work on my rigs and he will position himself for the chase when I'm tuning them

    1) Can the mirrors be covered?
    Yes, no problem.

    9) Do you have hand held radios? That's possibly a long distance to yell back to someone when setting up zones. (I have a set I can bring.)
I have one set. We also have wifi in the arena.

Just talked to Peter (Krazer) at MIT. We are a go for the tours and sailing on Sunday!
    3) What is the composition of the floor? Will legs of a stand sink in it or can it be smoothed to make it level. Or, if not, is there plywood to lay down that truss/stand legs can sit on?
The floor is a mixture of sand and rubber very level and goes down @ 2 inches-- tripods will dig in about an inch or so. We will have plenty of 4X8 sheets of plywood for stuff to stand on.

    4) Can a car be driven into the room for unloading/loading? If not are there hand trucks that can roll on that floor? (I don't see tire tracks and speakers are 100lbs each.)
Yes, we drive large box trucks in there all the time. I also have a small kubota 4 wheel drive flat bed that we can tool around. We also have a very large tractor with a loader bucket to move stuff up and down. It's a big stupid farm--we move everything by hydraulics.

    6) Are all lights on the same switch or, are they divided into zones with different switches?
The lights are 400 watt HIDs and are controlled on 4 separate banks, each row has a switch to turn them on or off. Plenty of light.

    8) What is the approximate width and length for cable purposes? Speaker cables in particular.
    120 ft X80 ft

Wow... I'm glad to get those dimensions. Everyone has been saying like 20 and 30 thousand square feet. Pictures don't tell the whole story. My ballroom is 104' x 68' or so, with generally 14' ceilings. That means it's not tremendously larger which is great news for cables, hazing and visualizing. A beautiful thing!

border collies are the best dogs of all time.
suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

The are great dogs. But they need work. Herding horses and laser beams make him one happy puppy.

Just day dreaming here.... again, not trying to "take over" but, depending on what I can bring in the van, here are a couple suggestions.

This first picture doesn't have the stand you made for Planters projectors added yet, nor does it include where Gort would go. It also goes on the assumption that I bring glow totems for my projectors and not truss. It also has a provision for a rear projected graphic projector through scrim. A couple "real life" photos of the ideas follow.

Another possibility that does show the stand for Planters and, assuming I can fit the big truss rig might be the following:

I'm inclined to go with the truss system. I would like Gort to go somewhat on center, and the shelving for Eric' rigs on the side. They are very heavy, and he has no provision for mounting them on trusses. I would also like to place 20 of these litte "critters" in front of the rigs. here is what they look like:Click image for larger version.

I'm going to only have at most 3 songs programmed for the Gort lasers and critters--so we can start the show on my system and then quickly swap fb3's to your comp so that you can incorporate my lasers and Eric's rigs into your content. I can then control Gort's base lights on my system

on the fly, and I may have some pre programmed sequences for the critter light's (fades, patterns, ect) that I can also control on my system.
But for the most part, you control the show as you bring the most content. It is going to be awesome none the less. Now I need to get back to building. There is nothing like a deadline to get the juices flowing.

The truss basically will be determined by whether the rental van has a roof rack or some way to strap down without damaging the roof. It should but, it's sometimes a surprise when you arrive at Enterprise and see what they give you. I pack creatively though.
