New Diode

Just in case this has not been noticed, there is a new diode out there with somewhere well in excess of 6W output! I said somewhere because it pegged DTR's meter at 6.8W! I am going to test this diode as soon as it arrives and measure the beam size, the divergence, the wavelength and the effect of temperature.

I didn't post a wavelength because we don't know what it is, yet. There is no doubt that it is blue, but between 440 and 472, we don't know. I'll test one as soon ad it arrives.

Yup. I was thinking the same thing not too long ago. It's almost worth it to sell all my crap now, wait a few years and get back in around 2019. 20 watt RGB's at Amazon.com for $129 at that point.

You're both wrong. Why buy the 2019 projector? Wait till 2022 and get a 50 W RGYB, or 2030 and get a 100W ROYGCBV/UV/VUV, with, are you ready? The actually released Saturn Scanners.

It should be about the journey not the destination. I think that is what has changed here. The experimenters, the pioneers have retired and the consumers have picked up the ball. This diode may turn out not to deliver, but if it does then I think this is huge and these blues will likely be followed by similarly enhanced greens that also depend on GaN. This reminds me of the release of the Mitsu diodes a few years ago. That is what enabled the transition from small toy projectors to the wide availability of projectors that rivaled the top of the line systems previously available only to big projection companies.

The Mitsu diodes had 10's of thousands of views. We'll see.
