    Default Single mode bundle question

I'm about to jump into the fray and finally order the single mode diodes from DTR and I have a question about lenses.

It seems to me that the advantages of the various lenses is how much more power people are getting. Since this is a home programming projector, I really don't care too much if there is a 10% increase in power between a $8 lens and a $30 lens. Especially since you need three. What lenses should I be getting? And why? Is it anything other than power?

    Thanks!

This should help you out, Brad: http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...ghlight=choose

All of the single modes will work with any of the collimation lenses I recorded observations with.

I just got some of those new nifty higher power single-mode blues that I need to test, but I suspect the results for the other single-mode diodes tested will be generally indicative of what you'll get for the single-mode blues.

<Edit> the short story is the AixiZ 400-700nm Single Element is good for most single-mode diodes that DTR sells both for correction and power. It would not necessarily be the best for combining via knife-edging (the beam size at aperture info is missing in my table), but they are more than adequate for PBS cubing or just single diode builds. Oh, and that AixiZ lens is $8 instead as compared with the favored G-2's $30.

But moar more power evil laugh. I have used the G2's and I think swami is also if he is using the lens he purchased from me.

Seriously though I have in the past gotten better beams from some of the cheaper lens. I am guessing they might clip the beam some where the g2 passes all.

yeah... the higher power lenses have worse beam quality. i think you'd be amazed at how perfect ~300mW is for living room and show programming.
suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Yeah, since I keep all the laser stuff at work and really have very limited space at home, I've wanted something with a tiny form factor I can keep at home on the nightstand or dresser for sitting propped up in bed with a laptop and get some work done.

At work I can just throw up 8' tables and spread things out and have a couple computers and a Pluto and DZ splitter and all that sitting around. I don't have that kind of space in the current abode.

I was about to ask if this image that you have graciously provided to us of you programming shows late at night involves jammie-jams - or not, but I'll wait till SELEM to ask you in person.

Well.... as I have not done it yet, that remains to be seen. I don't happen to own jammie-jams so, Ill need a recommendation as to where to locate those. Where do you suggest?

Brad, with some PT-20s (tiny footprint on amps), I'd wager that you could easily put together a 5" RGB cube. Modded PT-20 amps with 506's would get you 30K performance and a slightly smaller galvo footprint. Regardless, a tiny table-top PJ on your nightstand could be had with this setup.

These single-mode diodes are wonderful for the exact application that you mention. You could browse porn and create frames, all from the comforts of your bed!
If you're the smartest person in the room, then you're in the wrong room.
